Install Null Modem It is possible to install a standard 28.8 modem driver in your client. This does not require actually having a modem, but rather just using a serial port with this driver attached to it and allowing FREESCO to emulate the modem responses. The only real difference is in the FREESCO configuration for the null modem script which is detailed in the FREESCO null modem init script setup. This null modem driver is for Win 98 clients, but others are availible for other operating systems. Open the Windows Control Panel Double-click on Modem Select Add Select Other then Next Check the Don't detect my modem and select Next Select Have Disk Select Browse and point to the location of the Null Modem driver (NullModem98.inf) Select OK and follow the instructions on the screen Install Dialup Server If the system does not have a dialup server (PPP server), you will have to install one. Insert Windows 98 CD Select Add/Remove Software Double-click on Communications Check the box for Dialup Server Click OK Click OK Follow instructions on the screen Reboot The Computer Configure the Null Modem Open the Windows Control Panel Double-click on Modem Select Generic NULL Modem (if you installed the modem correctly, this option should now be available) Click on Properties Set maximum speed to 57600 (or up to 115200 with a high quality cable) Select Connection Tab Click on Advanced Make sure "Use Flow Control" is selected(if your application requires it) Make sure "Hardware" (RTS/CTS) is selected (if your application requires it) Deselect "Software" Click OK and exit modem properties Configure the Dialup Server Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->Communications-->Dialup Networking Under Connections, select Dialup Server Select the Generic Null Modem tab Select Allow Caller Access Select Change Password Enter new password "test" and confirm new password "test" (or whatever you want.
