  Before You Begin
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for purchasing your EtherPCI LAN Card II from Linksys. The
instructions below explain how to set up the card's software drivers
for use with your network software.

Be sure to read the User Guide before installing your card. In addition,
please make note of these hardware & software guidelines:

    * When loading the EMM386.EXE program in your computer's CONFIG.SYS,
you MUST use version MS-DOS 6.22 or above. If you load an older
EMM386.EXE program (below DOS 6.22), your computer will hang up while
        loading the network driver.

    * Plug-and-play computers have a number of expansion slots inside.
Each slot has a pre-assigned interrupt (IRQ) and I/O address (MEM).
When the Linksys LAN Card is inserted into a PCI slot, the PC's
BIOS should automatically assign a unique IRQ & MEM value for the
        network card.

In most cases, the card should work fine using the pre-
assigned IRQ and I/O addresses. Occasionally, however, the
card may have an IRQ conflict with other adapters in the system.
If this happens, you will need to change the IRQ setting of the
LAN Card manually. There are three possibilities:

                - Your PCI may not allow you to change the IRQ value(s) of
the PCI slot(s). In this case, you will ONLY be able to
use the IRQ & MEM values that have been pre-assigned to
                  each slot.

                - You may be able to change the IRQ & MEM values for a given
PCI slot by setting jumpers on your PC's mother board.
Please refer to your PC's motherboard user guide for
                  specific instructions.

                - Your PC may allow you to change the IRQ & MEM values for
a given PCI slot by accessing the PC's BIOS setup menu.
Please refer to your PC's user guide for specific details.

Although it is advisable to set a unique IRQ address for
each PCI slot, depending on your PC, you may or may not
                  be able to do so.

  Setup
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Packet drivers are general drivers used by many network operating systems,
and especially, by TCP/IP packages. If your network software specifically
mentions that it supports packet drivers, then you can probably use the
packet drivers that are included on the disk that came with your Linksys
  card.

The most important thing to remember when installing a packet driver
is the software interrupt vector. The default vector for the Linksys
drivers is 0x62 (hexadecimal). Most packet driver software packages
will try to search for any drivers loaded into memory, and then determine
the drivers' vector value. Other software may require that you supply
  the vector manually.

The packet driver is contained on the Linksys Program disk under the
PKTDRV directory. The name of the program is LNEPCI2.COM. To run
the program, copy it to your hard drive, then use it with the following
  syntax:

        LNEPCI2 packetnumb

where "packetnumb" is a hexadecimal software interrupt number
        from 0x60 through 0x80.

Run the LNEPCI2.COM program before loading your packet driver
software. You can insert the COM program into your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file if you want so that it automatically starts up each time
  your computer is booted.
