The device is made up by following firmware. (a)Printer (b)Ethernet board (c)Master controller *By starting the batch file supplied with the updater, it is possible to update above firmware. *The master controller is a firmware for copy, scanner, and FAX. [2]Operating environment and Limitations (1)The proper operation is guaranteed only when the device is directly connected to the computer with a USB cable. (2)OS Microsoft Windows 98 SE Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition / Professional Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Microsoft Windows Vista *For these operating systems, the User must log in as the Administrator (3)Printer driver In order to update the Printer firmware, the RPCS Raster driver should be installed on your computer and printing should be available via USB connection. (4)TWAIN driver In order to update the Ethernet board and master controller firmware, the TWAIN driver should be installed on your computer and printing should be started from TWAIN driver. [3]Before starting the update (1)Check that the power of the device is on. (2)Connect your computer to the device with the USB cable. The use of a USB Hub or like device may prevent proper update operation. (3)This firmware updater is for GelSprinter GX3000S/3000SF/3050SFN only. Confirm that this updater supports your device. (4)Disconnect the telephone line and the Ethernet cable from the device. (5)Before starting the update, please close all applications, windows, and or dialog boxes. This includes: the printer properties dialog box, status monitor, and SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (6)Complete all print jobs before starting the update. (7)Confirm that scanned file date and sent/received fax file date are not in the device memory. Those data will be erased by updating. Please note that we doesn't guarantee when the data is deleted. (8)Do not turn off the power of the device or unplug the USB cable during the update. Also, do not start or print from other applications including the printer driver, the GX status monitor and the SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (9)If you turned off the power of the device or unplugged the USB cable during the update, start the batch file and start over again. (10)Check the "System standby" and "Hibernate" settings of "Power Options" ("Power Management" for Windows98) before you start the update. Set "Never" for the "System standby" setting and deselect "Enable hibernate support". (Under WindowsXP, set "Never" for "System standby" and "System hibernates" settings.) (11)Do not have the system standby or hibernate mode enabled during the update. (12)We recommend that you back up the phone book and each setting before the update. [4]How to update (1)Normal case Start "GelSprinterGX3000S_Setup.bat", "GelSprinterGX3000SF_Setup.bat", or "GelSprinterGX3050SFN_Setup.bat" to start the update. Follow the instructions on the screen. Please read "About Firmware Updates.pdf" supplied with the download package for details. (2)Errors occur during the update. If errors occur during the update, the updater will be closed. In this case, follow the instruction of "(1)Normal case" and start over again. (3)The power of the device is turned off or the USB cable is pulled out during the update. a.If the printer was unplugged or USB cable was unplugged during the firmware update, the printer will be started in one of the following modes when it is powered on: ・Print mode (before the update. "PC:Ready" appears on LCD.) ・Update mode (System error (S002) appears on LCD.) a-1.Print mode The power is automatically turned off. Turn on the power again. Follow the instruction of "(1)Normal case" and start over again. a-2.There are 2 patterns in case of update mode. ・System error (S002) appears on LCD, and the power is automatically turned off after about 2 minutes. Turn on the power again. Confirm that "PC:Ready" appears on LCD, and follow the instruction of "(1)Normal case" . ・System error (S002) appears on LCD, and the power is automatically turned off after about 2 minutes. Turn on the power again. If System error(S002) occurs again, please the contact customer support. b.If USB cable was unplugged during the Ethernet board or Master controller firmware update, one of the following actions will be performed. b-1.The firmware is successfully transferred. "Firmware update error" occurs in the computer, but the update in the device is successfully completed. Below messages appears on LCD. First line " FIRMWARE UPDATE OK " Second line "MACHINE POWER OFF/ON" Follow the message, and turn off and on the power. b-2.The firmware is not successfully transferred. "Firmware update error" occurs in the computer, and the device is not completely updated. In this case, "PC:Ready" appears on LCD. Start "GelSprinterGX3000S_Setup.bat", "GelSprinterGX3000SF_Setup.bat" , or "GelSprinterGX3050SFN_Setup.bat", and start over again. c.If USB cable was unplugged during the Ethernet board or Master controller firmware update, one of the following actions will be performed. c-1.When "PC:Ready" appears on LCD, follow the instruction of "(1)Normal case" . c-2.When "PC:Ready" does not appear on LCD, please the contact customer support. [5]Questions and Answers Q1.How can I check whether the printer driver has been installed or not? A1.On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. The installed printer driver is displayed on the [Printers (Printers and Faxes)] dialog box. Q2.How can I check whether TWAIN driver has been installed or not? A2.On the [Start] menu, point to [Control Panel], and then click [System]. Select [Device manager] in [Hardware] tab. The installed TWAIN driver is displayed on Imaging devices. Q3.How can I check which device is supported by the updater? A3.Start the updater and check the printer name displayed on the window title of the firmware update dialog box. Q4.How can I check that USB has been selected for the port of the printer? A4.On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File] menu. Check [Print to the following port] on the [Details] tab of [Properties] Q5."Bi-directional support is set to disabled in the printer port settings. Set the printer port settings again." message appears. What should I do? A5.On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File] menu. Click [Spool Settings] on the [Details] tab and select [Enable bi-directional support for this printer] Note: Under Windows2000/XP, select the [Port] tab from [Properties] and select [Enable bidirectional support] Q6."Connection Error" message has appeared on the LCD. How can I update my device? A6.Confirm if your device is supported, and reconnect to the computer with the USB cable. If "Connection Error" still occurs, install the TWAIN driver again. Q7."The Ethernet board is not installed" message appears. What should I do? A7.Confirm that the Ethernet board is installed on the back of the device. When the Ethernet board is not installed, press "OK" button and continue to update the Master Controller. If the Ethernet board is installed, press "OK" button and quit the Master Controller update. After that, tune off the device and confirm the Ethernet board connection. Start "GelSprinterGX3000S_Setup.bat", "GelSprinterGX3000SF_Setup.bat", or "GelSprinterGX3050SFN_Setup.bat", and start over again. Q8.How can I delete print jobs manually? A8.On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then select [Purge Print Documents] from the [File] menu. Note: Under Windows2000/XP, select [Cancel All Documents] from the [File] menu. Q9.Below message appears. What should I do to fix the error? <Message> The printer is currently printing, unable to receive data, or error(s) have occurred. Start updating after printing is complete, the printer can receive the data, or the error(s) have been fixed. A9.Refer to "User Guide" supplied with the device. Start the updater after fixing the error. Q10.What will happen if I update with a firmware updater older than the firmware? A10.The firmware is not updated. In case of the same version, the firmware is not updated neither. (This is common among Printer, Ethernet board, and master controller.) Q11.How can I cancel a "paused" printing state of the printer? A11.On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then deselect [Pause Printing] from the [File] menu. Q12.Following error message has appeared on the computer screen. How can I update my machine? <Message> The printer is currently printing or error(s) have occurred. If you continue updating, problem(s) to the current status may occur. Do you want to continue updating? A12.Press Cancel button, back to the previous screen, and press Next button. Confirm that the message is gone, and follow the instructions on the screen. Printer status is not error, but there is a possibility that the update is not completely done if you continue to update. Q13.Following error message appears on the computer screen during the update. What should I do? <Message> ・No response from the printer.・・・。 ・Communication error.・・・。 A13.Confirm the power of the device and cable. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
