Windows NT 4.0 Installation Instructions
----------------------------------------
The following steps describe how to install your 3Com network NIC in a
computer running Windows NT 4.0.

1. Start Windows NT.

2. Click the start menu in the lower right corner of the screen. Choose
Settings, Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double-click the Network
    icon.

3. Click the Adapters tab in the Network Control Panel.

Note: If Networking has not been installed in your system before,
when you open the Network control panel Windows NT will ask
you if you want to install networking. Click Yes and refer
to the Windows NT Documentation for instructions. If you have
previously installed a Windows NT service pack, you need to
reinstall the service pack after the network installation is
complete to insure the Windows NT network components are
updated to the level of the service pack.

4. Click Add...

5. In the Select Network Adapter window, Click Have Disk.

6. Insert the EtherDisk #1 diskette into drive A: and press
    Enter.

7. In the Select OEM Option box, select the entry that matches the
3Com XL NIC you are installing.

8. Click the OK button. Files are read from EtherDisk 1, and the 3Com
    GUI installer runs.

9. On the first menu, choose Express Installation and click OK. The
program will test the NIC and test the NICs connection to the
network. If any tests fail, and error box appears with a message
about the failure. Click the help button for help on how to fix
the problem. If no computer name or workgroup name is present, the
GUI will request these names. Seek help from your network
administrator if you don't know what to enter.

10. Click the Finish button to complete the GUI. Windows NT will prompt
for diskette #2. Place EtherDisk #2 in diskette drive A: and click
OK. Files are copied from EtherDisk #2.

11. You may be prompted for network configuration information by Windows
NT. Seek help from your network administrator if you don't know what

Installing Windows NT Networking for the First Time

If you have never installed networking on this computer, begin at step
5 in Reinstalling Windows NT Networking.

ADVANCED INTALLATION OPTIONS
----------------------------

Running Windows NT on a Non-Intel Processor
    -----------------------------------------

If your system cannot run the Configuration and Diagnostic
program, you may need to set the speed and duplex level of the NIC in
the Windows NT registry. The speed and duplex value of the NIC can be
set manually by using the MEDIA keyword. To set the MEDIA keyword, add
the key MEDIA to the registry in the subkey:

    \\HKEY_lOCAL_NACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\El90x?\Parameters

NOTE: Multiple subkeys that look like El90x appear right next to
each other. The correct one has a digit in place of the ?
in the above expression to represent which NIC it is (for
example El90x1). The incorrect one simply reads El90x.

The value for the MEDIA keyword should be one from the list below. The
    default is NotPresent.

MEDIA 10HALF <-- 10 MBPS with half duplex
MEDIA 10FULL <-- 10 MBPS with full duplex
MEDIA 100HALF <-- 100 MBPS with half duplex
MEDIA 100FULL <-- 100 MBPS with full duplex
MEDIA AUTO <-- Driver performs auto configuration
MEDIA NotPresent <-- Use settings in NIC
