Please read this file carefully before using the product. ƒTable of Contents„ [1]Function [2]Operating environment and Limitations [3]Before starting the update [4]How to update [5]Questions and Answers [1]Function The GelSprinter GX Series firmware update tool (hereinafter referred to as "firmware updater") updates firmware on the printer. [2]Operating environment and Limitations (a)PC When utilizing the PC's USB interface to update the firmware, the USB port must be comply with the USB standard 1.1 or higher. The proper operation is guaranteed only when the printer is directly connected to the computer with a USB cable or a Network cable. (b)OS The following OS are supported. Microsoft Windows 98 SE Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional* Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition / Professional Edition* Microsoft Windows Server 2003* *For these operating systems, the User must log in as the Administrator (c)Printer driver In order to use the firmware updater, the printer driver should be installed on your PC and printing should be available via USB connection. [3]Before starting the update (a)Make sure the printer is turned on. (b)Be sure to connect the printer "directly" to the PC with a USB cable or a Network cable. The use of a USB Hub or like device may prevent proper update operation. (c)This firmware updater is for GelSprinter GX Series only. Make sure your printer is supported by this updater. (d)Before starting the firmware update, please close all open applications, windows, and or dialog boxes. This includes: the printer properties dialog box, status monitor, and SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (e)Complete all print jobs before starting the update. (f)Do not turn off the printer or unplug the USB cable, or unplug the Network cable during the update. Also, do not start or print from other applications including the printer driver, the GX status monitor and the SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (g)If you turned off the printer or unplugged the USB cable during the update, start the update again. (h)Check the "System standby" and "Hibernate" settings of "Power Options" ("Power Management" for Windows98) before you start the update. Set "Never" for the "System standby" setting and deselect "Enable hibernate support". (Under WindowsXP, set "Never" for "System standby" and "System hibernates" settings.) (i)Do not have the system standby or hibernate mode enabled during the update. (j)Close status windows of SmartDeviceMonitor including "Status List" before starting the update. (k)Ensure that the "Extended Features Check Box" is unchecked, in the SmartDeviceMonitor application. This setting is located within the "Tools- Extended Features Settings" dialog box. [4]How to update - Double-click [GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe] to start the update. (X_XX represents the version.) Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. For further information about the procedure, see <<J00767XX.pdf>> Note: If the printer was unplugged, or USB cable/ Network cable was unplugged during the update process, the printer will be started in one of the following modes, when it is powered on: (a) "Print mode" ("Ready" displayed on the LCD of the printer) Since I was not able to achieve this state, the assumption is that "Ready" is displayed in the LCD Solution: Restart the process by double-clicking the [GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe] (b) "Update mode (*)"("UPDATASTART" displayed on the LCD of the printer) Solution: Restart the process by double-clicking the [GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe], during this process "UPDATASTART" will be displayed on the LCD of the printer for approxiamately one minute. Note : if the process does not start after the allotted time, the printer will automatically power off. Turn the power of the printer on and restart the process. [5]Questions and Answers Q1. How can I check whether the printer driver has been installed or not? A1. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Installed printer drivers are displayed on the [Printers (Printers and Faxes)] dialog box. Q2. How can I check which printer is supported by the updater? A2. Start the firmware updater and check the printer name displayed on the window title of the firmware update dialog box. Q3. How can I check that USB has been selected for the port of the printer? A3. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File] menu. Check [Print to the following port] on the [Details] tab of [Properties] Note: Under Windows2000/XP, select the [Port] tab of [Properties] Q4DThe message "Bi-directional support is set to disabled in the printer port settings. Set the printer port settings again." has appeared. What should I do? A4. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File] menu. Click [Spool Settings] on the [Details] tab and select [Enable bi-directional support for this printer] Note: Under Windows2000/XP, select the [Port] tab from [Properties] and select [Enable bidirectional support] Q5DHow can I delete print jobs manually? A5. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then select [Purge Print Documents] from the [File] menu. Note: Under Windows2000/XP, select [Cancel All Documents] from the [File] menu. Q6. An "error" message has appeared on the LCD of the printer. How can I update my printer? A6. Refer to the User Guide supplied with the printer, for trouble-shooting information. Start the firmware update after fixing the error. Q7. What will happen if I update with a firmware updater older than the firmware? A7. The firmware is not updated. Q8. How can I cancel a "paused" printing state of the printer? A8. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers (Printers and Faxes)]. Click the icon of the printer, and then deselect [Pause Printing] from the [File] menu. Q9. How can I make the printer online? A9. Press [Online] button on the operation panel of the printer or re-connect the printer to your computer via a USB cable. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
