Windows 2000 Professional modem drivers for the 3Com/US Robotics 56K Voice PCI Modem. (Hawk)
Information and Installation Instructions
How to use this driver
This file contains the drivers for the 3Com Data/Fax/Voice modem (Hawk) for Windows 2000 Professional. The files will be extracted to the C:\Dell\Drivers\46XVP directory.  
 
To remove existing drivers: (if necessary) 
1. Right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on the Windows desktop. 
2. Click on PROPERTIES. 
3. Click on the HARDWARE tab. 
4. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button. 
5. Click on the PLUS sign in front of the device category called MODEM. 
6. Right-click on the device called US Robotics 56K Voice PCI. 
7. Click UNINSTALL. 
8. You will be warned that you are about to uninstall the device from your system. 
9. Click OK. 
 
If you have updated to Windows 2000 from another operating system or you are installing 
The modem for the first time in a clean Windows 2000 installation: 
1. Right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on the Windows desktop. 
2. Click on PROPERTIES. 
3. Click on the HARDWARE tab. 
4. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button. 
5. Open the device category called OTHER DEVICES. 
6. Right-click on the device called PCI Serial Port. 
7. Click PROPERTIES. 
8. Click the DRIVER tab. 
9. Click UPDATE DRIVER. 
10. Click NEXT. 
11. Ensure that the option SEARCH FOR A SUITABLE DRIVER FOR MY DEVICE is selected, then click NEXT. 
12. Ensure that the only selection is SPECIFY LOCATION, then click NEXT. 
13. When prompted for the location of the driver file choose BROWSE and select C:\Dell\Drivers\46XVP. 
14. Click FINISH to complete the installation.  
15. Check that the driver version listed is 5.19.0.2 (You may need to reboot to see this information.) 
16. Click CLOSE on the modem properties screen. 
17. Close the DEVICE MANAGER window. Your modem is now ready for use.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
