README.TXT Driver File Contents (iviii.exe)

Thank you for choosing Toshiba's ImageVision III compatible multifunctional fax/printer.

This readme.txt file contains important information on using the
ImageVision III Printer Driver Software. Read this information carefully
before using the printer.

<<< Notes on Installing this Printer Driver Software >>>

ImageVision III contains and utilizes the VTECD.386 program. The VTECD.386
program increases Windows printing performance by sending data directly to the
parallel printer port (direct-to-parallel port) instead of utilizing slower
Windows and DOS methods.

Programs such as VTECD.386 cannot coexist with similar programs that
utilize direct-to-parallel port printing operation. Therefore, if your
system contains another program that utilizes direct-to-parallel port
printing operation (ie. printer driver or application software using a high
speed printing driver) ImageVision III may not function properly. An example
of possible problems would be erroneous printed characters that were not
found in your original document.

If you experience this, or similar problems, and you are aware of a software
program you have installed that indicated it will utilize direct-to-parallel
port operation, it will be necessary to change the SYSTEM.INI file as
described below prior to using ImageVision III.

Note: If you are unaware of installing such a direct to parallel port
printing program on your system, and you are experiencing problems,
you can perform the following as a method of "process-of-elimination".
Otherwise, please contact your computer specialist or Toshiba Product Support
at (800) 950-4373. Make a back up copy of your SYSTEM.INI.

   1. Open the SYSTEM.INI file using the Notepad.

   2. Search for such a file name (using direct-to-parallel port operation)
                               <Example> device= XXXX.386

IMPORTANT: Many drivers contain the XXXX.386 extension. Example of
such drivers are sound, CDROM, and keyboard drivers.
Make sure you can identify the driver as a print related
                   driver.

   3. Change the "device=XXXX.386" line in SYSTEM.INI file to a comment line
(inactive command) by inserting a semicolon ( ; ) as shown in an example
below. This way the modification can easily be reversed by removing
the semicolon should it not correct the problem.

     <Example>
           DEVICE=XXXX.386
            Change to:
           ;DEVICE=XXXX.386

After this change, the previous printing software application may not
function correctly, however your applications that you print from should
function without any problems when printing using the Imagevision III driver.

<<< Notes on Installing Other manufacturer's Printer Driver Software >>>

Should you wish to install another manufacturer's printer driver that
utilizes direct to parallel port printing operation you will have to
perform the same step as above only commenting out the VTECD.386 driver.

<<< Printing with the ImageVision III Printer >>>

(1) The print quality of the ImageVision III printer depends largely on the
performance of your PC display. If you are using a 16-color display
driver, some gray scale printing patterns, particularly shading
patterns, might not be printed out as you desire. This is a result of
Microsoft Windows GDI operation. Therefore use of a display driver
having a capability equal to or higher than 256-color is recommended.

(2) Printing of solid color areas might be different from what is displayed
on the computer's monitor. If you experience this problem, use a monochrome hatch
pattern to represent the previously selected solid color.

(3) Print speed of the ImageVision III printer can be affected by the RAM memory size
of your PC. ImageVision III can be used in a less than desirable memory
condition, however it is recommended to use a PC having at least 8MB of
RAM memory. In the event suitable memory is not available, enable the
Use Spooler function to improve your printer's performance.

(4) Some screen savers may interrupt the ImageVision III printing operation
depending on the configuration of your PC. If you are printing and the
screen saver activates, the printing might stop before completing the
printing of all pages. If you experience this problem, try to use a different
screen saver, or disable the screen prior to printing. After printing is
complete, you can re-enable the screen saver.

(5) The ImageVision III printer can only be used for printing Windows applications. Printing
from MS-DOS applications is not possible even if the application is started from Windows.

<<< Using a Printer Other Than ImageVision III >>>

To use a printer other than the ImageVision III printer, close the ImageVision III
Print Manager and select your printer driver software. If the ImageVision
III Print Manager is left active, the printer status may indicate
   incorrect information.
