Dell PowerVault 130T
Firmware for the Library and DLT4000/7000 Tape Drives

  	NOTE: x: represents the system root drive letter.
This release contains the following firmware versions:
•	PowerVault 130T Tape Library Application Code 1.6.04 is located in x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\Library
•	PowerVault 130T DLT4000 Tape Drive Firmware D782 (v130) is located in x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\DLT4000
•	PowerVault 130T DLT7000 Tape Drive Firmware v109 is located in x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\DLT7000
•	“SDLT Update” utility for updating tape drive firmware is located in x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\SDLTUpdate

 
NOTE: This firmware release supports Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Netware, and Linux.  However, the utilities used to update the firmware only support Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 so the PowerVault 130T must be connected to a Windows system to perform the upgrade.

Upgrading the PowerVault 130T Library Firmware
The firmware update for the PowerVault 130T Tape Library requires a Windows-based system and a null-modem serial cable to connect to the tape library.
1.Attach the null-modem serial cable to the serial port of a Windows system containing the firmware and to the CSE port on the library.  Power on or reset the library.

2.During boot, while the library display reads <Menu> available (visible for about five seconds), press the MENU button on the operator panel.

3.The operator panel displays the following choices:
		>Functional Reflash
		NVRAM test & init
Select Functional Reflash using the arrow buttons and press ENTER.  The operator panel displays:
		FUNCTIONAL RE-FLASH
	    	IN PROGRESS
		Connect CSE port...

4.Open a DOS command-line window and change to the directory containing the PV-130T library firmware (default location is x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\Library).

5.Next, run the command:  flash97.exe reflash.prm

6.The program will prompt you for the serial port number. Type in the serial port number that is connected to the cable and press <Enter>.
When the transfer is complete the PC will display Send Status: File transfer completed successfully.  At this point the library will flash the code to memory.
 	CAUTION: Do not power cycle or reset the library during the firmware flash.

7.When the library Operator Panel displays Write OK...<Reset>, push the System Reset button on the operator panel.  The library will reboot and the operator panel will display:
		BOOT RE-FLASH
		APPLICATION RUNNING
		Connect CSE Port...

8.At the DOS prompt, run the command:  flash97.exe boot.prm

9.The program will prompt you for the serial port number. Type in the serial port number that is connected to the cable and press <Enter>.
When the transfer is complete the PC will display Send Status: File transfer completed successfully.  At this point the library will flash the code to memory.
 	CAUTION: Do not power cycle or reset the library during the firmware flash.

10.When the library Operator Panel displays Write OK...<Reset>, push the System Reset button on the operator panel.

15.When the library Operator Panel displays Write OK...<Reset>, push the System Reset button on the operator panel. 
 
16.The firmware update is complete.  The new Boot code and Functional Code will be displayed during the first 5 seconds of the library boot process.  Verify the correct levels of code are displayed.  The format appears below:
		Boot: 2.2.00 01OCT98
		Func: 1.6.04 09FEB99

Upgrading the PowerVault 130T DLT4000/7000 Tape Drive Firmware
 
NOTE:  It may be necessary to reboot the server performing the DLT drive upgrades and the PowerVault 130T Library if you have updated the PowerVault 130T Library Firmware in the previous sections. 
 
1.Go to the directory x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\SDLTUpdate

2.Click the setup.exe program and follow the directions to complete the installation.  This will install the “SDLT Update” Drive Firmware upgrade tool.
This program will create the default directory C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update and install a shortcut on your Start menu under Programs -> Quantum Applications.
 
NOTE: Do not execute the utility at this time.
Upgrading the Firmware
 
CAUTION: The firmware files included with this firmware package are for the PowerVault 130T only.  Do not use these firmware files on any other devices.

3.Click the SDLT Update shortcut under Start -> Programs -> Quantum Applications or click SDLTUpdate.exe in the C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update folder.

4.The program will automatically scan for all DLT tape drives connected to the system.

5.If the only DLT tape drives connected to your system are in the PowerVault 130T Library, click on Select All Tape Drive(s) under Step 2 on the left side of the window.  Otherwise, find the DLT tape drives in your library using the program and check the box next to each.  

6.Click Update Drive(s) under Step 3 on the left side of the window and the Firmware Update Wizard will appear.  Click Next and you will be prompted to select the firmware file.  Depending on which drive type you have in your library, browse to one of the following files:
•	DLT4000:  x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\DLT4000\d4v130omx1.img
•	DLT7000:  x:\Dell\Drivers\R108378\DLT7000\DLT7000_V109_OMX-105.IMG
Click Next.

7.After confirming the details of the firmware update and reading the warning, click Next again.

8.The firmware upgrade process will begin.  The update will take up to four minutes to complete for all drives.  
 
CAUTION : Do not remove power to the tape drive or library during this process.

9.When the updates have completed successfully, “SDLT Update” will prompt for a reboot of the server.  Select No and click Finish. 

10.In the upgrade utility, a P will appear next to each drive that has completed the upgrade successfully.  The bottom message frame will display details on the firmware update for each drive. 

11.After all DLT tape drives have been upgraded, close the upgrade application.

12.Power-cycle your tape library to complete the firmware update.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
