PowerVault 110T-DLT1 Tape Drive Firmware Revision 5032 Update instructions for Windows

Prior to upgrading:
- Ensure the tape drive is unloaded and the drive is in an idle state 
(stop the services for all backup applications).

This release contains the following firmware versions:
•	c:\dell\drivers\R108384 \readme.htm - Contains the upgrade instructions
•	c:\dell\drivers\R108384 \readme.txt - Contains the upgrade instructions
•	c:\dell\drivers\R108384 \Firmware - Contains the firmware files for the PowerVault 110T DLT1 Tape Drive
NOTE: This firmware upgrade supports Windows NT, Windows 2000, Netware, and Linux.  However, you must connect the PowerVault 110T DLT1  to a system running Windows NT or Windows 2000 to perform the firmware upgrade.

Upgrading the PowerVault 110T DLT1 Tape Drive 
1. Go to the directory x:\dell\drivers\ R108384\Firmware

2. Click the setup.exe program and follow the directions to complete the installation.  This will install the SDLT Drive Firmware upgrade tool.
This program will create the default directory C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update and install a shortcut on your Start menu.
 	NOTE: Do not execute the utility at this time.
Upgrading the Firmware

3. Click the SDLT Update shortcut under your Start menu or click Setup.exe in the C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update folder.

4. The program will automatically scan for all DLT1 tape drives connected to the system.

5. Find the DLT1 tape drives using the program and check the box next to each. 
 
6. Click Update Drive(s) under Step 3 on the left side of the window and the Firmware Update Wizard will appear.  Click Next and you will be prompted to select the firmware file.  Browse to the directory x:\dell\drivers\ R108384\ Firmware  and select dlt1_V50_DEL-1_80.IMAGE.  Click Next.

7. After confirming the details of the firmware update and reading the warning, click Next again.

8. The firmware upgrade process will begin.  The update will take up to four minutes to complete for all drives.  
 	CAUTION: Do not remove power to the tape drive or autoloader during this process.

9. When the updates have completed successfully, SDLT Update will prompt for a reboot of the server.  Select No and click Finish. 

10. In the upgrade utility, a P will appear next to each drive that has completed the upgrade successfully.  The bottom message frame will display details on the firmware update for each drive. 

11. After all DLT1 tape drives have been upgraded, close the upgrade application.

12. Power-cycle the server and the DLT1 drive once the update has finished.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
