Specifications and recommendations for 100 Mbps cabling
=======================================================

The ATI AT-2560 FX PCI adapters have a choice of SC or ST
connectors.

This document covers the following topics:

Link integrity
Common problems

NOTE: The AT-2560FX PCI/100 operates at 100 Mbps in half-
and full-duplex modes.

Recommended cables
------------------

The cable must comply with the IEEE 802.3 100BASE-FX standard for
62.5/125 µm multi-mode fiber cable.

The cable between the computer and the hub must be less than 2000
meters long for full-duplex operation and 412 meters long for
half-duplex operation.

The transmit circuit of the network card is connected to the
receive circuit of the hub and vice versa.

Connecting two workstations without a hub
-----------------------------------------

100BASE-TX uses a star topology. This means a hub or concentrator
is in the center of a star, and each workstation or server is
connected to this hub.

For test purposes, you can directly connect two workstations or a
workstation and a server without using a hub.

Link integrity
==============

There are three LEDs on the AT-2560FX PCI adapter:

1. A TX light indicating data packets being transmitted

2. An RX light for data packets being received

3. An FD light which indicates full-duplex mode

Refer to your adapter Installation Guide or the "Diagnostic LEDs"
Readme file for complete information.

Common problems
===============

A hub can't detect a workstation
--------------------------------

This is often the result of a crossed cable. Make sure the
wiring is correct. Try switching Tx and Rx and look for a Link
indication on the hub (if there is a Link indicator) or a flashing
Activity indicator on the 2560 (ACT).

Workstations can't connect to the network
-----------------------------------------

Make sure hub port is configured to the correct speed. Also, make
sure last line in the NET.CFG (NetWare only) file reads:

   lastdrive=F (for NETX systems)

     or

   lastdrive=Z (for VLM systems)

Also try resetting the concentrator or hub or turn the power off
and on.

If the card transmits but does not receive, try running diagnostics
software to check if the interrupt is in a conflict.

Check frome types (NetWare only)--must be the same type on the
workstation as on the server.

Check protocols on both workstation and server

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
