Synaptics Touchpad Windows 98 Driver Installation

The following instructions detail how to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver, version 5.0.10.
Please note that this procedure is for the Windows 98 operating system only.

You may wish to print these instructions for future reference.

The Synaptics Touchpad driver is loaded with a self-installing executable file named "Us5_0_10.exe".
This file is located on the Digital System CD, in the directory/folder \Drivers\Win98\TouchPad.
To locate this file and install the driver, perform the following steps:

1. Place the Digital System CD in the CD drive.

2. Browse to the driver file location:
* From the Windows 98 Desktop, double-click the "My Computer" icon.
The "My Computer" window appears.
* In the "My Computer" window, double-click the icon representing your CD-ROM drive.
This will usually be labeled "E:" but can be other letters. The icon will have a small picture of a CD on it.
The "My Computer" window should change to a window labeled "E:" (as appropriate for your system.)
* Double-click the "Drivers" folder.
* Double-click the "Win98" folder.
* Double-click the "Touchpad" folder.
There should be one file in the "Touchpad" folder - "Us5_0_10.exe". It may display as simply "Us5_0_10".

3. Perform the installation process.
* Double-click the "Us5_0_10.exe" file.
Some small windows will quickly display and disappear.
The "Setup" window will appear, labeled "Synaptics Touchpad Driver Installation".
The "Welcome" window displays.
* In the "Welcome" window, click "Next".
* In the "Choose Destination Location" window, click "Next".
* In the "Start Copying Files" window, click "Next".
A smaller "Setup" window appears to show the file copying progress, then disappears.
A "Setup complete" window appears.
* In the "Setup complete" window, select "Yes, I want to restart..."
* Click "Finish" to complete the installation and restart your system.
Note: Until your system is restarted, the Synaptics TouchPad driver will not be completely installed and may not work properly. If the TouchPad pointer does not move to click "Finish", press the "Enter" key.
