w95.txt Driver File Contents (w9524107.exe)

Congratulations, you have successfully extracted the driver files into the C:\S3drv directory or the directory of your choice. This directory also contains a backup copy of the installation instructions. You are now ready to start the installation process. Please follow the steps below:

1.Close all open applications.

2.Click the Start button.

3.From the Start button select "Settings" and then go to "Control Panel". From the Control Panel,
   double-click on "Display".

4.Select the "Settings" tab in the Display Properties applet.

5.Click "Change Display Type" (or under Windows 95 OSR2 your button will read "Advanced
   Properties", click it).

6.Under "Adapter Type" click the "Change" button.

7.If you extracted the files to a floppy disk make sure it is inserted. By default Windows looks on the A:\ drive first. Now click the "Have Disk" button. If the files have been extracted to the C:\S3drv dir or other directory on your hard drive (for example: C:\TEMP), click the "Browse" button. In the "Open" window browse your way to the directory on your hard drive where the driver files reside and press OK. Windows is looking for an S3 ".INF" file (i.e. s3virge.inf, s3trio.inf, etc.). This file contains "information" Windows needs in order to install the driver files.

8.After Windows has found and recognizes the appropriate INF file it will display a "Select Device" dialog window that lists the S3 chips supported by the driver being installed. Select the appropriate driver for the chip in your system and press "OK".

Please note, you should never install video drivers or related software if you are not sure which graphics chip is in the system. If a message stating that one or more driver files is older than the files currently on the system, it is recommended to go ahead and overwrite the files.

9.After the file copying is complete, "Close" the Change Display Type
window (or for Windows 95 OSR2 users click "Apply" in the Advanced Display Properties window).

10.Click the "Apply" once back at the Display Properties Settings window. Windows 95 will prompt you to restart the system; select "Yes".

11.When Windows 95 restarts, the new driver will be installed. At this
point you can re-open "Display Properties Settings" and select your desired resolution, color depth and refresh rate. You have now successfully installed your S3 display driver for Windows 95.
