LAN Adapter
======================================================================

Location of Driver: \NT\EX10NT.SY_ (compressed)
Location of Setup file: \NT\OEMSETUP.INF

Prerequisites
-------------

Before installing the driver, be sure to run the EtherExpress 10 ISA
adapter EX10Set program to configure the adapter and to verify that the
diagnostic test passes. If you are using multiple EtherExpress 10 ISA
adapters in the same PC, you need to write down the configuration of each
10 ISA adapter. This includes the I/O Port address setting, Interrupt,
and Ethernet ID (MAC Address) for each adapter.

General Instructions
--------------------

1 The EtherExpress 10 ISA adapter should be configured and tested prior
to setting it up in Windows NT. You can configure the adapter with
EX10SET.EXE. EX10Set cannot be run under Windows NT, you must boot to
   DOS.

2 In NT, double click the My Computer icon.

3 In My Computer, double click the Control Panel icon

4 In Control Panel, double click the Network icon.

5 Select the Adapters tab and click Add.

6 A list of available adapters will be displayed. Click on Have Disk.

7 Insert the EtherExpress 10 ISA LAN Adapter Driver disk into drive A.
From the Insert Disk window, specify the path to the EtherExpress 10
   ISA driver as:

         A:\NT

8 From the Select OEM Option window, select Intel EtherExpress 10 ISA
   Adapter and click OK.

9 Specify I/O Base Address that the EtherExpress 10 ISA adapter is
using. For example, if the EtherExpress 10 ISA adapter was set to I/O
   Address 300h, select 0x300.

Note: If you're not sure what the I/O Port address should be, make
a selection here and after Windows NT installation is
complete, run EX10SET.EXE from the EtherExpress 10 ISA
adapter disk and select View Configuration to make sure that
            it is correct.

10 From the Network window, select the Identification tab.

11 Specify a unique Computer Name, then specify and the name of the
Workgroup or Domain that you belong to. Select Close.

12 Windows NT will perform the binding process. If any additional network
software options were installed, you may be prompted for specific
information about settings for those protocols.

13 When prompted to restart your computer in order for the changes to
   take effect, select Yes.

Hints and Tips
--------------

* At Least One Device or Driver Failed During System Startup:

If Windows NT fails to detect or initialize the EtherExpress 10 ISA
adapter, you will get this error message in the Event Viewer:

"The Intel EtherExpress 10 ISA LAN Adapter Driver service failed to
start due to the following error: A device attached to the system
      is not functioning. "

   Try these steps:

1 Verify that the I/O address that you specified for the EtherExpress
10 ISA is correct by running EX10SET.EXE and selecting Custom from
the menu. If the I/O address is different than the value you
specified when installing Windows NT, select the I/O address from
the menu and change it to match the I/O Port Address settings in
      Windows NT.

2 Verify that the I/O address and/or interrupt being used by the
EtherExpress 10 ISA are not being used by any other device in your
workstation, like a sound card, faxmodem, scanner, tape backup,
      serial ports, parallel ports, etc.

Look at the documentation or setup programs for the other installed
adapters in your computer to verify what I/O address and interrupts
they are using. Some sound cards use multiple interrupts and I/O
addresses. For example, a typical sound card will use an I/O
address of 220 and IRQ 5 for the sound port and an I/O address of
330 and IRQ 11 for the MIDI/Joystick port.

3 Verify that the EtherExpress 10 ISA passes all diagnostic tests by
running EX10SET.EXE from DOS and selecting DIAG. If the
EtherExpress 10 ISA adapter fails diagnostics it will not function
      correctly under Windows NT.

If diagnostics fail, try setting the EtherExpress 10 ISA to a
different I/O address or a different interrupt.

* Adapter passes diagnostics but still does not work with Windows NT

If the adapter passes diagnostics but still does not work with Windows
NT, there could be a problem with your Windows NT network
configuration. If you've made several attempts to configure Windows NT
or had another adapter installed before the EtherExpress 10 ISA LAN
adapter, it may be necessary to change the Windows NT Network setup to
the default settings and reinstall the EtherExpress 10 ISA LAN driver.
   Here's how:

1 Choose the Network icon in Control Panel, select the Adapters tab.

2 Highlight the Intel EtherExpress 10 ISA Adapter and click Remove.

3 From the Network Settings window, click OK.

4 Windows NT will have to reset for the changes to take effect. When
      prompted, select Yes.

5 Reinstall the EtherExpress 10 ISA LAN adapter following the General
      Installation steps above.
