NETWORK INSTALL DISKETTE The programs on this diskette resolve anomalies between the COMPAQ LTE Elite notebook computer and certain network adapters and drivers. These programs are designed to be used only for the purposes and environments specified. If any of these programs are needed, it is recommended that this file be printed and used for reference during network installation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NETWORK Adapters That Use Memory in the D000 Block and IRQ 2/9 The default configuration for PCMCIA drivers is to use memory in the D000 block and IRQ 2/9. If your network adapter uses either one of these resources there will be a conflict. If the conflict is the IRQ, change the IRQ of the network adapter. If the conflict is the D000 block of memory there are several solutions: 1) Change the network adapter's memory to avoid D000 to DFFF. Space is normally available from C800 to CFFF. 2) Use DOS's EDIT utility or other ASCII text editor and modify the CSALLOC.INI file located in the \CPQDOS subdirectory. Add an argument to the MEMEXCLUDE line that reflects the memory space used by your card. The MEMEXCLUDE line will look something like the following: MEMEXCLUDE=C000-CFFF,E000-EFFF Just add a comma and the address space the network card needs to the end of the line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MADGE Adapters: AT Ringnode ISA Ringnode SMART 16/4 SMART AT Ringnode Drivers: SMARTIPX.EXE - used in a DOS Netware environment. The supplied program SMARTIPX.COM is to be used in conjunction with SMARTIPX.EXE. SMARTIPX.COM must be on the same drive and in the same subdirectory as SMARTIPX.EXE. When SMARTIPX.COM is run, it runs SMARTIPX.EXE. If SMARTIPX.EXE is run from a batch file, make sure the line in the batch file does not specify SMARTIPX.EXE. The line should be: SMARTIPX or SMARTIPX.COM MADGEODI.COM - used in a DOS Netware environment. The supplied program SMARTODI.COM is to be used in conjunction with MADGEODI.COM. SMARTODI.COM must be on the same drive and in the same subdirectory as MADGEODI.COM. When SMARTODI.COM is run, it runs MADGEODI.COM. If MADGEODI.COM is run from a batch file, make sure the line in the batch file does not specify MADGEODI. The line should be: SMARTODI. SMARTLSP.EXE - used in a DOS Lan Support Program environment. The supplied program SMARTLSP.COM is to be used in conjunction with SMARTLSP.EXE. SMARTLSP.COM must be on the same drive and in the same subdirectory as SMARTLSP.EXE. When SMARTLSP.COM is run, it runs SMARTLSP.EXE. If SMARTLSP.EXE is run from a batch file, make sure the line in the batch file does not specify SMARTLSP.EXE. The line should be: SMARTLSP or SMARTLSP.COM SMARTND.DOS - used in Windows for Workgroups and Lantastic environments. The supplied program SMARTND.CPQ is to be used in conjunction with SMARTND.DOS. Add a line to your CONFIG.SYS file that installs SMARTND.CPQ immediately before SMARTND.DOS. For example: FILE=20 BUFFERS=20 etc. device=[d:][\path]SMARTND.CPQ device=[d:][\path]SMARTND.DOS etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOVELL NE2000 Adapter Driver: NE2000.COM - ODI driver used in a DOS Netware environment. The supplied program MODNE2.COM modifies the NE2000.COM file on disk. When it is run, MODNE2.COM must be on the same drive and in the same subdirectory as NE2000.COM. After running MODNE2 it will not be necessary to run it again. If NE2000.COM is overwritten with the original for any reason, MODNE2 will have to be run again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ EAGLE EP2000 Adapter Driver: EP2000.DOS - NDIS driver used in a DOS environment. The supplied program EP2000.CPQ is to be used in conjunction with EP2000.DOS. Add a line to your CONFIG.SYS file that installs EP2000.CPQ immediately before EP2000.DOS. For example: FILE=20 BUFFERS=20 etc. device=[d:][\path]EP2000.CPQ device=[d:][\path]EP2000.DOS etc. NE2000.COM - ODI driver used in a DOS Netware environment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SMC PC130, PC130E Adapter and TIARA LANCARD/A Adapter Driver: TRXNET.COM - used in a DOS Netware environment. The supplied program MODTRX.COM modifies the TRXNET.COM file on disk. When it is run, MODTRX.COM must be on the same drive and in the same subdirectory as TRXNET.COM. After running MODTRX it will not be necessary to run it again. If TRXNET is overwritten with the original for any reason, MODTRX will have to be run again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ XIRCOM Adapters Most XIRCOM drivers support specifying an IRQ number on the command line of the driver. This must ALWAYS be done. If the driver is allowed to automatically determine an IRQ it will usually fail. Listed below are programs and information for some specific XIRCOM adapters. ------------------------------------- XIRCOM Pocket ARCNET Adapter Driver: Any DOS based driver. The supplied device driver IRQ3457.SYS is to be used in conjunction with the network driver. IRQ3457.SYS must be installed in CONFIG.SYS before any network drivers are run by adding the following line: device=[d:][\path]IRQ3457.SYS /x where x = 5 or 7. The argument will usually be 7 since that is the normally used IRQ in this application. IRQ3457.SYS is a generic DOS device driver that has uses other than just the XIRCOM ARCNET Adapter. See the description at the end of this document for details. ------------------------------------- XIRCOM Pocket 3270 Adapter Driver: P3DFTV86.COM when used with IBM Personal Communications 3270 software. The supplied program CLRPICS.EXE is to be used in conjunction with P3DFTV86.COM. CLRPICS.EXE must be run *after* P3DFTV86.COM. If a batch file is used to run P3DFTV86.COM, add a line in the batch file that runs P3DFTV86.COM. ------------------------------------- XIRCOM Pocket Ethernet PE III Adapter Current Xircom PE III drivers will not operate in EPP mode on Compaq LTE Elite computers. The parallel port in the Compaq LTE Elite is EPP 1.9 compliant. The drivers for the Xircom PE III are EPP 1.7 compliant. Xircom is writing new drivers for the PE III which are scheduled to be available in July of 1994. To acquire these drivers, contact Xircom technical support at (800) 874-4428 in the U.S./Canada +32-3-360-64-20 for Europe +852-525-2078 in Asia (818) 878-7600 in the U.S. for those who cannot reach the above numbers. As an interim solution, use the "Compaq bidirectional mode" option in the current driver with some loss of performance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Devices that attach to the serial/parallel port and use IRQ 3, 4, 5 or 7 IRQ3457.SYS - If the device is unable to initialize, use of this DOS based driver is indicated. IRQ3457.SYS must be installed in CONFIG.SYS before the affected driver by adding the following line: device=[d:][\path]IRQ3457.SYS /x [/x]... where x = 3, 4, 5 or 7 Multiple arguments may be supplied. Do not specify an interrupt that is not being used by an attached device.Download Driver Pack
