                      Windows XP Driver Installation

   Windows XP provides a complete "Plug and Play" System that
   automatically recognizes and configures SMC8041 V.2.

   Driver Installation Steps for Windows XP:

       1) Insert SMC8041 V.2 in one of the PCMCIA Slots and start
          Windows XP.

       2) The "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box appears.
          Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
          and click the "Next" button.

       3) Insert the SMC8041 V.2 driver disk in your drive.       
       
       4) Select "Include this location in the search" and type path "X:\WINXP"
          below, then click the "Next" button.

          Note: X: means the floppy or CD drive containing the drivers,  
          such as: A:, B: or D: etc.

       5) The installation process copies all the required files to the hard disk.  

       6) When Windows prompts with "Completing the found new hardware wizard" 
          in the "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the "Finish"
          button.
       
       7) Remove the SMC 10/100 PC Card (SMC8041 V.2) Driver disk from your drive.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
