Installation diskette for Dell 3-Mode floppy driver.

This driver diskette enables support for 3-mode floppy drives under
Windows95, Windows98, Windows ME, WindowsNT 4.0, Windows 2000 and
Windows XP on the following systems:

Installation Instructions for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME:

Use the "Add new hardware" option in
control panel.  Do not have Windows search for new hardware.  Select
Floppy Disk Controller, and click on the "Have Disk" button. Browse to the
directory where the driver files are located, and select DELL3MD.INF (in the Win9x subdirectory). Follow
the prompts (you will have to restart your computer to complete the installation).


Installation Instructions for Windows NT 4.0:

View the diskette or driver file directory from "My Computer."
Look in the "WinNT" directory and select the proper install script (either NT-NS30X.INF or NT-SM958.INF).
Click on File->Install.

The script you should use is determined by your computer type.

Installation Instructions for Windows 2000:

Open "My Computer" on your desktop. Right-click on the
A: drive object, "floppy drive 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)" and select "Properties"
from the menu. Select the HARDWARE tab, then select "floppy disk drive"
in the device list and click "Properties." Select the "Driver" tab and
click "Update Driver." Click "Display a list of known drivers,"
then click "Have disk" and direct it to the Win2K-XP directory in this package.
There are three directories, each containing one driver. Select the driver
in the directory based on your machine, and the list below:

Installation Instructions for Windows XP:

Open "My Computer" on your Start Menu. Right-click on the
A: drive object, "3 1/2 Floppy (A:)" and select "Properties"
from the menu. Select the HARDWARE tab, then select "floppy disk drive"
in the device list and click "Properties." Select the "Driver" tab and
click "Update Driver...".
Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and
click "Next>". Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"
and click "Next>". Click on the "Have Disk..." button use browse to
find the directory where this package is installed (usually inside
C:\DELL\Drivers). Select the win2K-XP directory. 
There are three directories, each containing one driver. Select the driver
in the directory based on your machine, and the list below:

Click "Next>" to install the driver. You may see a "Hardware Installation"
warning message. Select "Continue Anyway" and then select "Finish". You
may see a "System Settings Change" message with a request to restart your
computer. Once you do so, your 3-Mode driver will be operational.

Special Notes:

Note for users of Windows 95/98/ME: If you attempt to use the "Copy Disk"
function from Windows explorer, you will see an error that 1024-byte sectors
are not supported. If you wish to copy a 1024-byte sector diskette, you can
use the DISKCOPY function from the MS-DOS command prompt.

Note for Latitude systems: This 3Mode driver should not be installed if you
are using Softex Docking Services. Support for 1.25MB diskettes is provided
by Softex Docking Services, so this driver is not needed. If you install
this driver, you will need to re-install Softex Docking Services.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
