Microsoft Remote Installation Service(RIS) Instructions

Problem: Microsoft Remote Installation Service (RIS) installation fails for both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Solution: Refer to Microsoft's Article Q246184,How to Add Third-Party OEM
Network Adapters to RIS Installations.

For Windows 2000
----------------
1) Make sure the RIS server has Service Pack 3 or above installed. 
2) Follow the steps in the Microsoft Article Q246184 article at this link:

For Windows XP
--------------
1) Extract b57xp32.inf file from RISxxx.zip. This can be found in the networking card driver CD, under the WindowsXP32\RIS directory.
2) Copy this b57xp32.inf file to RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Dir_Name\i386 folder in the RIS server.
3) Follow the steps in the Microsoft Article Q246184 article at this link:

4) Skip step 1. from the Microsoft article. The correct .inf file has been copied to the RIS server.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
