TECHNOTE.TXT Driver File Contents (Kf221tx2.zip)

This file contains the technical information which should be referred to
if your system matches one of the following conditions or when you are
experiencing problems during installation:

1. using EMM386 version earlier than v4.49
2. 486 PCI motherboard, SIS 85C497/496 chip set, Award Software's BIOS
3. 486 PCI motherbaord, ALI M1489/1487 chip set
4. Acer 486 PCI Model - AcerPower DX4vp

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. using EMM386 version earlier than v4.49

   Some PCI bus computers running MS-DOS EMM386, may trap and halt when PCI
   drivers are loaded. This is a known incompatibility between EMM386
   and some PCI BIOS implementations. To prevent this problem, run EMM386
   version 4.49 or later. Version 4.49 is shipped with MS-DOS 6.22 and is
   available from Microsoft on CompuServe.

   On CompuServe, download the file EMM622.EXE located in Library One in the
   Microsoft area. EMM622.EXE is a self-extracting archive which contains:

       EMM386.EX#
       EMM386.EX^
       MSD.EXE
       MSUPDATE.EXE
       UPDATE.BAT

   After running EMM622.EXE to extract the above files, run UPDATE.BAT which
   will upgrade the files EMM386.SYS to version 4.49 and MSD.EXE to 2.11.

2. 486 PCI motherboard, SIS 85C497/496 chip set, Award Software's BIOS

   Check the BIOS setup and ENABLE the "PCI MASTER Burst Disable/Enable"
   setting for the PCI slot. It will resolve the problem in most cases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. 486 PCI motherbaord, ALI M1489/1487 chip set

   Specify a specific keyword or setting for the network driver installation:

   a. NetWare DOS client (DOS ODI driver \dos\dc21x4.com)
      add the following keyword line for your NET.CFG file:

        LINK DRIVER DC21X4
            TX_THRESHOLD  3

   b. NetWare server driver (dc21x4.lan)
      specify TX_THRESHOLD parameter when loading server driver as follows:

      load dc21x4 ...... TX_THRESHOLD=3 .....

   c. Windows 95 - Network Adapter Property "Advanced" configuration

      Set "Store and Forward" setting to "Enable".

   d. DOS NDIS2-based driver (dc21x4.dos) installation
      Specify TX_THRESHOLD parameter line in DC21X4$ driver section for your
      PROTOCOL.INI file as follows:

                DriverName = DC21X4$
                .....
                TX_THRESHOLD=FP
                .....

   e. OS/2 NDIS2-based driver (dc21x4.dos) installation
      Specify TX_THRESHOLD parameter line in DC21X4$ driver section for your
      PROTOCOL.INI file as follows:

                DriverName = DC21X4$
                .....
                TX_THRESHOLD=FP
                .....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Acer 486 PCI Model - AcerPower DX4vp

   Since AcerPower DX4vp uses ALI M1429/1431/1435 chip set, refer to "#3."
   above for problem solving.
