WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES

  This package installs the software (Ethernet driver) to enable the
  following devices.

  - Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection
  - Intel 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
  - Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection

  Refer to marketing materials to find out what ThinkPad models
  support which devices.

  This package also installs Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager
  which is an extension to the Windows Device Manager.
  After the Intel PROSet software is installed, additional tabs are
  automatically added to Device Manager.

  If this package has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing)
  this package will fix problems, add new functions, or expand
  functions as noted below.

  This program is language independent and can be used with any
  language system.

  To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your

  1. Right-click the My Computer and select "Properties".
  2. Click "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager" button.
  3. Click the "+" sign in front of the Network adapters type to open
     the all devices in that type.
  4. Double-click one of the following devices;
     - Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
     - Intel(R) 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection

  5. Click "Driver" tab and the driver version is displayed.

 For PROSet users:
  If a prior versions of Intel PROSet was installed, you should be
  aware of the following changes with Intel PROSet for Windows Device
  Manager;
  - There is no system tray icon.
  - The configuration utility is not accessible from the Control Panel
    or the Start menu.
  - All Intel PROSet features are now accessed from Device Manager.
    To access features, simply open the Device Manager and double-
    click the Intel adapter you would like to configure.

  UPDATE INSTALL:

  1. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  2. Start Windows XP.
  3. Click "Start" and "Control Panel".
  4. Click "Performance and Maintenance" and "System" icon.
  5. Click "Hardware" tab.
  6. Click "Device Manager" button.
  7. Click the "+" mark to expand "Network adapters".
  8. Right-click one of the following devices in "Network adapters"
     and click "Properties";
     - Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
     - Intel(R) 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection
     - Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection
  9. Click "Driver" tab.
 10. Click "Update Driver..." button.
 11. Select "No, not this time" and click "Next >" button.
 12. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
 13. Click "Next >" button in "Hardware Upgrade Wizard" dialog box.
 14. Select "Search for the best driver in these locations." and
     "Include this location in the search:" only.
 15. Specify the path to the following sub-directory with the full
     path name where you extracted the package in step 1 in "Include
     this location in the search:".  PRO1000\Win32
 16. Click "Next >" button.

  Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver,

  3. It displays "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
  4. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
  5. Click "Next >" button in "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
  6. Select "Search for the best driver in these locations." and
     "Include this location in the search:" only.
  7. Specify the path to the following sub-directory with the full
     path name where you extracted the package in step 1 in "Include
     this location in the search:".  PRO1000\Win32
  8. Click "Next >" button.
     The driver installation starts.
  9. Click "Finish" button when the installation completes.


  CLEAN INSTALL: (Ethernet Controller in Other devices)

  Windows XP detected the "Ethernet Controller", but was not able to
  find the correct device driver.  In this case, you will see
  "Ethernet Controller" in "Other devices" in "Device Manager".

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
