INSTALLATION: ========================================================================= DirectX -------------------------------------------- Before SFX will function, you must install Microsoft's DirectX components. SFX is shipped with SFX, and will be installed with SFX. If you have a copy of SFX without the DirectX drivers, you can download them at Microsoft's WWW site: http://www.microsoft.com/DIRECTX/ NT Only: -------------------------------------------- For installing the release version of SFX on Windows NT, please unzip the file NT_DRV.ZIP which is found in the root directory on the SFX install CD. See the ReadMe file within that zip file for exact installation instructions. Reinstall -------------------------------------------- If SFX already exists on your system, you must uninstall it first before you reinstall. You may have to delete the SFXConfig.dat file found in the SFX directory. Also, if you experience problems loading your Cues, Sound Effects, and Workspace files from a previous installed version of SFX, you may have to delete those as well. They are located in the SFX\Documents directory. URLMON.DLL -------------------------------------------- SFX needs URLMON.DLL to operate. This file will be installed when you run SFX. Microsoft Word Viewer -------------------------------------------- Setup will also install the SFX User's Guide that can be viewed through Microsoft Word 97. If you do not have Microsoft Word 97, you can view the documentation through Microsoft Word Viewer 97 which is installed by Setup. You can also obtain Microsoft Word Viewer from the Microsoft web page at www.microsoft.com. Additional software on the registered version CD -------------------------------------------- If you have the registered version, the CD will contain additional software from other vendors: Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge 4.0a Demo (sfd4ax86.exe) Innovative Quality Software's SAW+ Demo (demosawp.exe) Syntrillium's Cool Edit Demo (c96setup.exe) To install an above application, run the corresponding file listed above. MISCELLANEOUS ========================================================================== * Screen Resultion: SFX looks the best under 1024x768 resolution. * Multiple sound effects: The number of sound effects that you may play simultaneously depends on the memory of your computer and the quickness of your hard drive. You may experience problems with playback when playing 6-9 simultaneous Wave files (assuming a Pentium 100 MHz with 32 MB RAM). * If you have a sound scheme selected in Win95, you may have to disable it to avoid having it annoying you while operating SFX. That is, when dialog boxes appear, or when you maximize/minimize windows, Win95 will play those system sounds.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
