Installation Guide for the Windows NT 3.51 Driver ---------------------------------------- You should install your adapter before installing your network driver. Your network operating system should be installed before you install the network driver. Windows NT 3.51 ---------------------------------------- The eMASTER+ diskette driver supports Windows NT version 3.51. For a Windows NT driver that supports Windows NT version 3.50, download 350PCI.EXE from any of Cogent's electronic forums. Both of these drivers use the same installation procedure, described below. The Windows NT 3.51 driver and help file for Intel-based computers is in WINNT\i386; for Alpha-based computers it is in WINNT\ALPHA. Windows NT 3.51 for MIPS and PowerPC Platforms ---------------------------------------- The Windows NT driver for MIPS platforms is available for the EM960 and EM960 Combo adapters. The Windows NT driver for PowerPC platforms is available for the EM110 T4 PCI, EM110 T4 PCI Combo, EM110 TX PCI, and EM110 TX PCI Combo. These drivers can be obtained from Cogent's electronic forums, or by contacting Cogent Technical Support. To Install and Configure the Windows NT 3.51 Driver ---------------------------------------- Follow the instructions below to install the Windows NT driver for your Cogent PCI adapter. 1. In Control Panel, double-click the Network icon. 2. Choose Add Adapter. 3. From the Add Network Adapter dialog box, choose the <Other> option, which is at the end of the list of displayed adapters. 4. Specify the path to your eMASTER+ adapter diskette. The Windows NT 3.5x driver for Intel- based computers is in WINNT\i386; for Alpha-based computers it is in WINNT\Alpha. 5. One driver supports all eMASTER+ PCI adapters for Windows NT 3.51. For Windows NT 3.50, choose your adapter from the list provided. 6. When prompted, choose your cable type from the displayed list. For Full Duplex operation, select "AUTOSENSE/Full Duplex." Otherwise, accept the default of "AUTOSENSE/Half Duplex." 7. Choose OK. 8. After Windows NT restarts, you will be able to use your new eMASTER+ adapter. Port Binding Sequence for Quartet Adapters ---------------------------------------- When installing a Quartet adapter under Microsoft NT, the binding sequence of each port is important. Protocols such as TCP/IP rely on specific protocol addresses to be mapped to specific ports. Windows NT may place port bindings in non- sequential order during initial driver installation. This can be corrected through the Control Panel. 1. Choose Networks icon from within the Control Panel. 2. Choose Bindings from the Network Settings windows. 3. In the Network Bindings window, select "Cogent EMPCI Adapter Driver" from the "Show Bindings for" pulldown menu. 4. In the bindings window, highlight any of the driver instances and use the Up and Down ordering buttons until the drivers are ordered 1 through 4 (or the last port, if a multiple adapter configuration) from top to bottom. 5. Save the settings, exit out of Networks and Control Panel, and restart your system for the changes to take effect. Network Interface Parameters ---------------------------------------- To reconfigure your adapter's cable type after you have already installed your eMASTER+ adapter, go to Control Panel/Networks. Highlight your adapter in the "Installed Adapter Cards" window, and choose from one of the following options: ---------------------------------------- INITSENSE/Half Duplex Performs cable type and line speed autodetection at adapter initialization (startup) time. ---------------------------------------- INITSENSE/Full Duplex Performs cable type and line speed autodetection at adapter initialization (startup) time with Full Duplex operation enabled. ---------------------------------------- ACTIVESENSE /Half Duplex Performs cable type and line speed autodetection at initialization (startup) time and at regular intervals during runtime. Use only when a cable is attached to adapter. ---------------------------------------- ACTIVESENSE/Full Duplex Performs cable type and line speed autodetection at initialization (startup) time and at regular intervals during runtime, with Full Duplex operation enabled. Use only when a cable is attached to adapter. ---------------------------------------- THIN Sets the adapter's cable type to BNC (also known as THINNET or 10Base-2) cable. (Combo models only) ---------------------------------------- 10 Mbps Selects for 10 Mbps UTP operation. (10 and 10/100 models only) ---------------------------------------- 10 Mbps/Full Duplex Selects for 10 Mbps UTP Full Duplex operation (10 and 10/100 models with RJ-45 only) ---------------------------------------- 100 Mbps Selects for 100 Mbps UTP operation. (100 and 10/100 models only) ---------------------------------------- 100 Mbps/Full Duplex Selects for 100 Mbps UTP Full Duplex operation (100BASE-TX models only) Other Configuration Parameters ---------------------------------------- The Windows NT application REGEDT32.EXE gives you access to other eMASTER+ PCI configuration parameters. Use REGEDT32.EXE only if you are familiar with the Windows NT Registry. Run REGEDT32.EXE and go to SYSTEM\CURRENT_CONTROL_SET\SERVICES\EMPCI1\PARAMETERS\. The following configuration options are available: ---------------------------------------- fp_off Optimizes driver performance on some machines. Do not use with the Intel 430FX PCI motherboard chipset (which includes Intel chips with the following part numbers: 82437FX, 82438FX, 82371FB, 82438FX). Set this parameter to "1" to activate optimization. Default: 0 (disabled) Range: 0, 1 ---------------------------------------- BurstLength Determines Packet Burst Length (the maximum number of DWORDs to be transferred in one DMA transaction). Default: 32 DWORDS Range: 1 DWORD, 2 DWORDS, 4 DWORDS, 8 DWORDS, 16 DWORDS, 32 DWORDS ---------------------------------------- IPG Compatibility parameter to be used as directed by Cogent Technical Support. Default: 0 (disabled) Range: 0, 1Download Driver Pack
