Installation Guide for the Windows for Workgroups ---------------------------------------- The Windows for Workgroups *.386 file supports all eMASTER+ PCI single port adapters. You may use any of the following drivers for Windows for Workgroups: DOS ODI DOS NDIS 2.0 Windows 32-bit *.386 file (NDIS 3.0) The OEMSETUP file located in the \WINDOWS subdirectory supports installation and configuration of any of these three drivers. To Install and Configure the Windows for Workgroups Driver ---------------------------------------- Follow the instructions below to install the Windows for Workgroups driver for your Cogent PCI adapter. 1. Go to the the Main program group and double-click on the Windows Setup icon. From underneath the Options menu, select Change Network Settings. 2. From the Network Setup dialog box, click on the Drivers button. 3. Next, choose the Add Adapter button. 4. From the list of adapters provided, choose Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter. 5. Select the drive where your Cogent driver diskette is located and select the \WINDOWS subdirectory as the install path. Choose OK. 6. Select your Cogent eMASTER+ PCI adapter from the list of adapters provided, and then choose OK. Note that you can select either to use the NDIS 3.0 (32-bit) driver, or the DOS ODI or DOS NDIS driver. NDIS 3.0 ------------------- If you want to use the NDIS 3.0 driver, you should choose either the EM960 PCI adapter, or the EM1x0 adapter (representing all other eMASTER+ single port adapters) NDIS 2.0 and DOS ODI ------------------- If you want to use the NDIS 2.0 or DOS ODI driver, you should select the last option in the list shown. After deciding upon your selection, choose OK. 7. After choosing OK, you can highlight your eMASTER+ adapter in the list of network drivers, and then choose setup, to edit the network adapter settings (see details on the NDIS 3.0 settings below). For the non-NDIS 3.0 drivers, use this setup option to select between DOS ODI and DOS NDIS. The Driver Type option at the bottom of the Setup window allows you to choose between NDIS and ODI. 8. After making any driver setup changes, choose Close to go back to the previous window. Click OK again to exit from the network driver install window. At this point, any necessary drivers will be copied to your system from the Windows for Workgroups diskettes and your eMASTER+ diskette. 9. You will be prompted to reboot for your new driver to take effect. Customizing eMASTER+ PCI NDIS 3.0 Parameters ---------------------------------------- Your eMASTER+ adapter will run well using the default values for the parameters that follow. The NDIS 3.0 EMPCI.386 driver supports the parameters below. If you are using the NDIS 2.0 or DOS ODI driver with Windows for Workgroups, see the files DOSODI.TXT and NDIS.TXT in \README for parameter information. Special Parameter Notes: Full Duplex Operation: The DOS environment does not really support Full Duplex operation, but if you need to connect your adapter to a Full Duplex switch port, use the Autosense / Full Duplex parameter. ---------------------------------------- Connection Type This parameter determines the type of cable to be used with the eMASTER+ adapter. Default: INITSENSE/Half Duplex Range: INITSENSE/Half Duplex Autosensing of line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time only INITSENSE/Full Duplex Autosensing of line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time only, with FDE activated 100 Mbps Sets speed to 100 Mbps manually (10/100 models only) 100 Mbps/Full Duplex Sets speed to 100 Mbps manually with FDE activated (100 TX and 10/100 TX models only) 10 Mbps/UTP Sets speed to 10 Mbps UTP manually (10 and 10/100 models only) 10 Mbps/Full Duplex Sets speed to 10 Mbps UTP manually with FDE activated (10 and 10/100 models with RJ- 45 port only) THIN Sets cable type to BNC Thinnet manually (Combo and BNC models only) ACTIVESENSE/Half Duplex Autosensing of line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time and during runtime. For use only when a cable is attached to adapter ACTIVESENSE/Full Duplex Autosensing of line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time and during runtime, with FDE enabled. For use only when a cable is attached to adapter ---------------------------------------- Burst Length Determines Packet Burst Length (the maximum number of DWORDs to be transferred in one DMA transaction). Default: 32 DWORDS Range: 1 DWORD, 2 DWORDS, 4 DWORDS, 8 DWORDS, 16 DWORDS, 32 DWORDS ---------------------------------------- Bus Number This parameter specifies the PCI Bus # on which the eMASTER+ PCI adapter resides. Default: 0 Range: 0, 1, 2 ---------------------------------------- PCI Access Mechanism This parameter informs the eMASTER+ PCI driver which type of PCI configuration mechanism the machine is using. The default setting is `AUTODETECT.' However, this setting will not work on all PCI machines. If your machine does not respond properly to the eMASTER+ PCI adapter, try changing this setting to either of the alternatives, `Mechanism 1' or `Mechanism 2,' depending on the mechanism in use by your system. You can use EMSETUP to determine which PCI Access Mechanism your system is using. Default: AutoDetect Range: Mechanism 1, Mechanism 2 ---------------------------------------- fp_off Optimizes driver performance in some machines (which includes Intel chips with the following part numbers: 82437FX, 82438FX, 82371FB, 82438FX). Set this parameter to "1" to enable activate optimization. Default: 0 (disabled) Range: 0, 1 ---------------------------------------- IPG Compatibility parameter to be used as directed by Cogent Technical Support. Default: 0 (disabled) Range: 0, 1Download Driver Pack
