Using the Help File for DIAGNOSE.EXE DIAGNOSE.EXE allows you to easily collect information about your computer and any inserted PC Cards. The information is then used to verify that your system is running correctly, or to fix any problems. To use DIAGNOSE, enter DIAGNOSE and any of the following flags you want to use with it at the DOS prompt. The correct format is as follows: DIAGNOSE /A /D=directory /L /M /? filename All flags are optional. The flags are as follows: /A Print all information without any user interaction /D=directory Send or receive files to the specified directory /L Test LAN functionality even if not running under DOS /M Print in monochrome /? Print out this list of available flags filename Save the program results in the specified file When you enter the DIAGNOSE statement at the DOS prompt, a screen will appear that explains a little about DIAGNOSE, how to get the results, and where the results of this session are being stored. Press any key to go to the main menu, where you can select the information you want to see. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Decompressing the Compressed Files on the Megahertz Diskette Occasionally you may need to use a file on the Megahertz Installation and Registration Diskette that was not decompressed during Setup. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Insert the diskette into the floppy drive 2. Change to the DOS directory (C:\DOS) on your hard drive 3. At the DOS prompt, enter EXPAND sourcefile destinationfile For example, C:>A:\RCK-V34.TXT C:\DOS\RCK-V34.TXT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. If No Configurations are Found During Setup Setup can configure your PC Card only if Card Services is functioning correctly and resources (e.g., IO ports, memory windows, IRQs) are available. When these two requirements are met, Setup's Express Mode can automatically determine a configuration for you. Additionally, Setup's Custom Mode will allow you to try configurations until you find one that works. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Disabling IBM Internal Modems If you are using an IBM Thinkpad 755CSE or other IBM computer that has an internal modem, you must disable it in order to use your PC Card. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Load Windows 2. Open the IBM Thinkpad Setup Group 3. Open the DSP Icon 4. Remove the check from the Telephony Function 5. Save 6. Reboot the computer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Computer PCMCIA Settings and Resources Following is a list of machines that contain nonstandard IRQs, along with the recommended resources. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Computer PCMCIA Shipped Recommended Recommended Recommended Controller C&SS Exclude COM Port IRQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABC Bicom N/C N/C N/C N/C Acernote 700 Series Cirrus Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 Acer Anyware N/I Acom Vesa 4000 Cirrus Cardsoft D000-DFFF 3 5 Altima Mirage Cirrus Cardsoft C800-CFFF 4 3 Ambra Notebook Vadem Cardsoft D000-D3FF 3 12 Ambra Subnote Databook Phoenix C800-CFFF 3 9 AMS Soundpro Databook Phoenix C800-CFFF 3 9 AMS Travelpro Databook Cardtalk D000-DFFF 3 5 AST Power Exec Intel Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 AST Bravo NB Intel Phoenix C800-CFFF 2 3 AST Ascentia800 Intel Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 AST Ascentia900 VLSI Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 AST Ascentia910 VLSI Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 AST Ascentia950 Cirrus Cardsoft D000-DFFF 3 9 AT&T Globalyst Cirrus Cardsoft D000-DFFF 4 5 Austin 486 Databook Cardtalk D000-DFFF 3 5 BSi N/I Canon Innovabook 10 Databook Phoenix C800-CFFF 2 3 Canon Innovabook100 Databook Phoenix C800-CFFF 2 3 Canon Innovabook200 Vadem Phoenix C800-CFFF 2 3 Chaplet NBD Intel Phoenix D000-DFFF 2 3 Chembook N/I Compaq Concerto Cirrus Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 Compaq Aero VLSI Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 Compaq Elite VLSI Cardsoft D000-DFFF 2 3 Compaq 5000 Cirrus Cardsoft E000-E7FF? Faxing The recommended fax class for your XJ4288 and CC4288 modem is fax class 1. If you experience faxing problems when using the AST910 with FaxWorks communications software, we suggest you try a different fax software package. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ****CELLULAR MODEMS **** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. Cellular Cable Installation Procedure Always connect the cables in the following order: 1. Insert the modem into the computer. 2. Be sure your computer is powered up. 3. Initialize the modem in the computer. 4. Enter your communications software package. 5. Connect the Megahertz cellular phone cable to the phone. The phone's power should be off. 6. Connect the other end of the cellular cable to the modem. You will hear three ascending tones in rapid succession, indicating that the Cable Sensor recognizes the cable and the modem is configured for the phone. 7. Turn the cellular phone on. If you have a digital cellular phone, switch it to analog mode (refer to your phone's user manual for instructions on how to do this). The phone is now ready to use. If the Cable Sensor does not recognize the modem, the message "Unrecognized Cable Attached" will appear if you are in terminal mode. Ensure you are using the correct Megahertz cable for that modem, and the correct cellular drivers are flashed on the modem. ** WARNING ** Connecting a non-Megahertz cable may damage the modem or the cellular phone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Connecting to the Internet over Cellular with XJ4288 or CC4288 It is highly recommended that you connect to your Internet provider using a landline connection. Most Internet providers are not set up to support and maintain a cellular connection. If you need to connect to an Internet provider with a cellular phone system, contact your local carrier to see if they provide a cellular modem pool. If so, follow your carrier's instructions for connecting with the modem pool. Contact your Internet provider through the modem pool. If not, carefully follow the recommended procedures to connect your cellular phone to the modem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11. Dialing Using a Cellular Phone That Requires a PIN Number To dial a cellular phone that has pin number fraud protection, use the following dial string: ATDT<phone#>,,,,!<pin#> where <phone#> is the phone number to dial, and <pin#> is the cellular phone fraud pin number. The comma (,) indicates a pause. The number of commas used may vary with different cellular sites. The exclamation point (!) performs the same function as pressing the Send key on the cellular phone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12. Cellular Factory Defaults &F0 factory default for non-cellular &F1 set modem to MNP 10-EC cellular enhancement If you are calling with a cellular phone or calling another modem with a cellular phone, &F1 is recommended for both modems. Use &F0 if both modems are using a landline phone line. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13. Cellular Faxing Faxes containing 5 or fewer pages usually arrive clean and easy to read. Because of the inconsistencies in the cellular environment, larger faxes increase the chances of transmission errors or incomplete transactions occurring. If you experience faxing problems, try resending your fax. If that fails, you may want to use different fax software. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14. Cabling Recommendations It is recommended that you never connect both a cellular cable and a landline phone cable at the same time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15. Dialing While Roaming The way you dial may differ from city to city, state to state, or province to province. Refer to the literature provided with your cellular phone or contact your cellular phone provider for dialing instructions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Download Driver Pack
