Notice:
-------
- If you use the Disk to Disk Utility shipped with your ThinkPad to
  restore the Windows XP preload environment, you do not need this
  package. This package is required when you install Windows XP
  without the Disk to Disk Utility.
- This package is language independent and can be used with any
  language system.


What This Package Does
-----------------------
Each of the ThinkPad listed below will have some conflicts or problems
when you install Windows XP or upgrade to Windows XP. This package
contains some supplement files to solve the conflicts or problems for
Windows XP.
The following ThinkPad computers are supported:

Install:
 1. Start Windows XP.
 2. Run CstateFlags.reg.

Unattended Install:
  - Run Regedit.exe by specifying the /s parameter.
   Regedit.exe /s CstateFlags.reg

(B) For following ThinkPad Users:
    - ThinkPad s31
    - ThinkPad i Series 1200/1300 Pentium Model

Apply [HackFlags.reg/RetryTO.reg]

Install:
 1. Confirm BIOS level is latest.
 2. Start Windows XP with connect to Internet.
 3. Go to "Windows Update" and  "Pick Updates to Install".
 4. Select "Driver Updates" Install "Intel PentiumIII Processor" , Press "Add" button.
 5. Click "Review and install updates".
 6. Click "Install Now" button.
 7. Click "Accept" to License Agreement.
 8. Start downloading the files and installing them.
 9. Click "OK" to restart the system.
 10. DoubleClick HackFlags.reg.
 11. DoubleClick RetryTO.reg.
 12. Restart the system.

Confirmation of effectiveness of these patches.

For ThinkPad 1200/1300 users
  1. Set Portable/Laptop as power scheme.
  2. Play any WAV file.
  3. Intel SpeedStep feature is available if the music can be played
     without sound corruption.

For ThinkPad s31 users
  1. Set Portable/Laptop as power scheme.
  2. Run HyperTerminal and press cancel button on "Connection Description"
     dialog box.
  3. Press any key and confirm that the status is "Connected" in the
     bottom left window.
  4. Intel SpeedStep feature is available if you can use mouse withouts
     any problem while "Connected".

Unattended Install:
  For step 10, 11, run Regedit.exe by specifying the /s parameter.
   Regedit.exe /s HackFlags.reg
   Regedit.exe /s RetryTO.reg

(C) For ThinkPad 390 Users

Apply [CHGIRQ.reg]

Install:
 1. Start Windows XP.
 2. DoubleClick CHGIRQ.reg.

Unattended Install:
  - Run Regedit.exe by specifying the /s parameter.
   Regedit.exe /s CHGIRQ.reg

(D) For ThinkPad 770E/ED Users who upgraded from Windows NT4.0 Preload
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apply [RMREG.EXE]

Install:
 1. Confirm ThinkPad Utility does not install correctly.
 2. Uninstall previous version of ThinkPad Utility.
 3. Run RMREG.EXE.
 4. Install New ThinkPad Utility.

(E) For the All ThinkPad Users:

Apply [IBMTPLCD.INF]

Install:
Note)Make sure that the correct video driver is installed prior to
installing this file. "xxxxx" which appear in the following instructions
is Max Resolution of your panel.
 1. Click right button on desktop to open "Properties".
 2. Select Settings tab.
 3. Click Advanced button.
 4. Select Monitor tab.
 5. Click Properties button.
 6. Select Driver Tab and click "Update Driver" button then, Hardware
    Update Wizard appears.
 7. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and
    click Next button.
 8. Select "Donft search, I will chose the driver to install" and
    click Next button.
 9. Click "Have Disk" button.
10. Click Browse button.
11. Select "Windows XP Supplement File " in your computer's disk drive
    and change the directory for "\IBMTPLCD\".
12. Select IBMTPLCD.INF, then Click "Open" button and "OK" button.
13. Check "Show compatible hardware".
14. Select "IBM ThinkPad IPS xxxxx LCD Panel" or "IBM ThinkPad xxxxx
    LCD Panel" and click Next button.
15. Click Finish button and Close button.
16. Click "Color Management" tab.
17. Click Add button and select "IBMTPIPS.ICM" or "IBMTOLCD.ICM" in
    "%Root%\system32\spool\drivers\color" directory.
18. Click Add button and close Display properties.

Unattended Install:
 1.Create or Add OemPnPDriversPath="folder for ICC Color Profile" under
   [Unattended] section in an Unattend.txt.
   For example, OemPnPDriversPath="DRIVERS\OTHER"
 2.Create the folder with the name of "folder for ICC Color Profile".
   For example, c:\DRIVERS\OTHER
 3.Put all the files within the folder created above.
   Files are:
       IBMTPIPS.icm
       ibmtplcd.cat
       IBMTPLCD.ICM
       IBMTPLCD.INF

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
