General Installation Guidelines
-------------------------------

To ensure a trouble-free installation, follow these
general recommendations. 

1. If practical, remove all PC cards from your system.
2. Close all applications.
3. Follow the installation instructions for your
   operating system. Refer to the User Guide.

Manual Uninstall/Reinstall for Windows 95
-----------------------------------------

If your first attempt at installing the card is
unsuccessful for any reason, your best course may be
to:

1. Remove the LAN+Modem card and its software from
   your system.
2. Remove all other PC cards from your system.
3. Repeat the installation procedures.

Also, consider whether your operating system
environment may be unstable due to frequent and
repeated attempts to install or remove hardware and
software components. Your operating system may contain
configuration files and drivers left over from
previous changes to the system.

If you want to confirm a thorough uninstall before
reinstalling the LAN+Modem card, remove the LAN+Modem
card driver from the Device Manager and do the
following:

 1. Open the Control Panel and double-click the System
    icon.

 2. Open the Device Manager tab. The LAN+Modem card
    should be listed under Modems, under Network
    Adapters, and under Multifunction Adapters.

 3. To remove both the network and modem adapters
    function, select "LAN+Modem Card" under "Multi-
    function Adapters" and click remove. If two
    instances of the card are installed, be sure
    to remove both of them.

 4. Open a DOS window. From DOS, change to the Windows
    95 INF subdirectory. The default name for this
    directory is C:\WINDOWS\INF. For example, at the
    DOS prompt, type:
    
    c: [Enter]
    cd \windows\inf [Enter]

 5. Delete the LAN+Modem card .INF files. Type:

    del netf556c.inf [Enter]
    del mff556c.inf  [Enter]
    del mdmf556c.inf [Enter]
   
 6. Change to the \windows\inf\other subdirectory.
    Type:

    cd \windows\inf\other [Enter]

 7. Delete any 3Com system files. Type:

    del 3com*.inf [Enter] 
 
 8. Change to the Windows 95 System subdirectory. Type:

    cd \windows\system [Enter]

 9. Delete the LAN+Modem card system files. Type:

    del un3c556c.exe [Enter]
    del fem556c3.sys [Enter]
    del fem556c4.sys [Enter]
    del fem556c5.sys [Enter]
    del wc556c.dll   [Enter]
    del w556cndi.dll [Enter]

10. Remove the LAN+Modem card from the PC card slot.

11. From the Windows 95 Start menu, select Shut Down,
    then select "Shut down the computer".

12. Restart the computer.

When this procedure is complete, you can reinstall the
card using the procedures given in the User Guide. If
problems persist:

    - Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    - Restart the computer. At the start-up beep, press
      [F8] and select the Safe Mode option.
    - Open the Device Manager and check whether the
      LAN+Modem card is present under the Network Adapter
      or Modems device categories.
    - If the LAN+Modem card is present under any of these
      categories, select it and click Remove.

Mobile Configuration Manager
----------------------------

DynamicAccess Mobile software makes it easier to
manage the diverse access and management requirements
of mobile users. Settings for any number of different
LAN connections (for example, settings for users
connecting remotely; different settings for users
connecting locally) can be saved in a single file and
included with each notebook configuration. This
enables the system to recognize more than one set of
configuration settings at a time.

The Mobile Configuration Manager software can be
installed under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT.
The Mobile Configuration Manager software is supplied
on the Installation CD.  The following procedures
assumes that the CD-ROM drive is Drive D and that
the Installation CD is in the drive.


Windows 98 Environments:

 1. From Start/Run menu, run d:\damobile\win98\damobile

NOTE: After installing the Mobile Configuration
      Manager under Windows 98 (SE Version 2222 or
      later) you may get a message stating that the
      Dial-Up Networking detected is newer than the one
      tested with MCM. This message is normal and no
      action is required.  The software should function
      normally.


Windows 95 Environments.

 1. Upgrade your Windows 95 environment by running
    three utilities. From Start/Run, run the following
    programs:

    d:\damobile\win95\dcom95.exe
    d:\damobile\win95\msdun13.exe
    d:\damobile\win95\tap12195.exe

 2. Install the Mobile Configuration Manager software.
    From the Start/Run menu, run
    D:\DAMOBILE\WIN95\DAMOBILE. Type:

    d:\damobile\win95\damobile [Enter]

Problems and Solutions
----------------------

This section identifies known problems with LAN+Modem
card installation and operation. Topics include:

General Problems
----------------

Problem: System hangs when card is in docking station

         Some laptop docking stations do not properly
         manage resources for the LAN+Modem card. If
         you notice this problem, we recommend that
         you install the LAN+Modem card only in the
         computer's main card slots.


Problem: Unable to ping between two installed LAN cards

         This could be a problem with how the IP
         addresses are bound. Bind one card to a
         static IP address. For the other, set
         networking to specify the IP address
         automatically.

Problem: System refuses to enter suspend mode while a
         communications application is running

         The LAN+Modem card does not support forcing
         the system into suspend mode while a
         communication application (such as
         HyperTerminal) is running. Windows environments
         reject suspend-mode requests in such instances.

         After the suspend-mode failure, the LAN
         interface may no longer show up in the system
         as a valid device. If this happens, try one
         of the following:

         - Close all programs and log in as a different
           user.
         - Remove the card from the computer, reinsert
           it in the same slot, and run Suspend/Resume
           again.

Problem: Could not install the card because system could
         not find a valid .INF file; or,
         card is not recognized by system.

         This is a BIOS problem. Contact your computer
         vendor for information on obtaining and
         installing the latest BIOS version for your
         computer.

Problem: Card not operating or system not recognizing card
         after installation procedure is completed.

         If you have not been prompted to restart your
         computer after you have completed the installation
         procedure, restart your computer.

Problems Related to Windows 95 (OSR 2)
--------------------------------------

Problem: An option to select NDIS5 appears in Windows
         95 OSR 2 driver options

         Although this prompt may appear under Windows
         95, this operating system supports only NDIS 4.

Problem: Modem does not give a sound

         With the default audio settings for Windows
         95, you may not hear the sound from the modem
         when you dial out. To enable the sound,
         complete the following procedure:

      1. Locate the speaker icon in the system tray.

         If there is no speaker icon in the system
         tray, open the Control Panel and double-click
         Multimedia.  On the Audio page, make sure
         Show volume control on the task bar is checked

      2. Double click the speaker icon in the system
         tray.

      3. When the Master Out window opens, select
         Options.

      4. Choose Properties and make sure the Mono In
         box is checked. Click OK.

      5. When the Master Out window is redisplayed,
         check Mono In Balance. Ensure that the mute
         box is unchecked.

         If the modem still does not make a sound,
         you may need to update your computer's BIOS.

Problem: Failure to install two LAN+Modem cards

         The modem driver only supports one modem in
         Windows 95 environments. For this reason,
         dual installations are not supported.
         However, you can disable one modem
         installation and operate with one modem and
         two LAN connections. For technical
         information, see Microsoft Limitation Article
         Q184191 on he Microsoft on-line support Web
         site.

Problem: Unattended installation of LAN+Modem card failed

	 Windows 95 OSR 2 does not support the PCIC TI 1251
	 controller card. If your notebook contains this
	 type of controller card, you must upgrade your OS.

Problems Related to Windows 98
------------------------------

Problem: Card fails to install.

         This problem has been observed on several
         hardware platforms and usually indicates that
         the computer's BIOS is not properly
         supporting Windows 98. Upgrade to a current
         BIOS that supports Windows 98.  Contact your
         computer manufacturer for details.
    
Problem: Problems with IntraNetware Client 2.2

         Novell IntraNetware client version 2.2 does
         not support Windows 98. If you try the
         LAN+Modem card with this network operating
         system, you may experience problems.
         Obtain and install Novell IntraNetware client
         version 3.1 or later.

Problem: Modem does not give a sound

         With the default audio settings for Windows
         98, you may not hear the sound from the modem
         when you dial out. To enable the sound,
         complete the following procedure:

      1. Locate the speaker icon in the system tray.

Problems Related to Windows NT 4.0
----------------------------------

Problem: Using cellular connect, some files do not transfer.

         The card does not support cellular connect with NT4
         running Softex card and socket services. For cellular 
         connect, use the following initialization procedure.

         The default modem setting is AT&F.
         1. Set control call as follows:
            Motorola cellular phones -- AT~C0
            Nokia cellular phones    -- AT~C1

         2. Enter the following initialization string:
            AT+MS=v34,0,0,7200,0,7200
            ATS53=85
            ATS54=0

Problem: Computer not connecting to network.

         The most common problems under NT 4.0
         occur because system resources are
         not set correctly.

         If you are installing the LAN+Modem card
         using the point-enabler procedure, refer
         to the following table for examples of what
         resources to select.

         Remember that you can always use the
         Windows NT Diagnostics Resource tab to
         determine which resources are free.

Problem: Suspend/Resume and hot-swap problems

         This class of NT problems may be due to
         limitations in the support for dual-function
         cards under various card and socket services.
         Remove the card wizard or card and socket
         services software and reinstall the card
         using the point-enabler installation procedure
         described in the User Guide.  

         This problem may be fixed in later versions
         of the software.  Contact your software
         manufuacturer for information on updates.

Problem: Card Slots disabled in NT 4.0 after card
         installation

         When attempting to install a 16-bit adapter,
         it is necessary to enable the PCMCIA device
         in Windows NT 4.0. To do this, click My
         Computer/Control Panel/Devices.  Scroll down
         to the PCMCIA.  Click Startup.  Change the
         selection to BOOT and click OK.  You will
         need to restart the computer.

Problem: Network Setup Wizard busy or not responding. 

         This has been observed on some systems
         running SystemSoft Card and Socket Services
         version 4.10.13.

         The installation seems to proceed normally.
         At the message: "Windows NT is now ready to
         start the Network so that you can complete
         the installation of Networking. Click Next to
         start the Network."

         Turn off the computer and restart it. This
         should restore the card to normal operation.

Problems Related to Specific Hardware Platforms
-----------------------------------------------

Fujitsu Lifebook 585TX
Problem: While using the LAN and modem functions at the
         same time, the computer fails to respond.

         Simultaneous LAN and modem operation is not
         supported on this computer.

Texas Instruments Extensa 390
Problem: System will not detect card.

         The LAN+Modem card is not supported on this
         computer. 

Toshiba (all models)
Problem: Card does not respond when configured with
         default resources

         This problems applies to systems running
         Service Pack 3 under Windows NT 4.0.  When
         the card is set up using the default
         settings, the system may not respond. Toshiba
         systems require IRQ 11 for the LAN+Modem
         card.  Changing the interrupt from 10 to 11
         solves the problem.

         Refer to NTCONFIGS.TXT
On the Toshiba Satellite 4000 CDT, IRQ 15
         is already in use (ATAPI). On this platform,
         use the Windows NT Diagnostics Resource tab
         to determine which resources are free. You
         can, for example, create a COM8 at IO 3F8
         with IRQ 13.

Acer Travelmate 723TX P2 400 TI PCI 1251
	The internal modem must be disabled before 
	installing the LAN+Modem card.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
