------------------------------------------------------------------
1.0 Installation Notes
------------------------------------------------------------------

1.1 Installation Information
----------------------------
     * This release of the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing
software runs on Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 and
Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 3 or above). It is not
supported under Windows 3.x or prior versions of
       Windows NT.

     * The HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing software requires 150 MB
of free disk space on the disk drive you are installing
to. In addition, you must have at least 30MB free disk
       space on the root drive.

1.2 Uninstalling the software
-----------------------------
     * To uninstall the software do the following:

        1. Select Start Menu | Settings | Control Panel
        2. Open Add/Remove Programs (double-click on it)
        3. Select HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing Software
        4. Select Add/Remove...

------------------------------------------------------------------
2.0 Known Problems/Troubleshooting
------------------------------------------------------------------

2.1 What to do if the software stops functioning
------------------------------------------------
     * It is possible to cause the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing
Software to stop functioning when uninstalling other
third-party software packages. This is caused by the third-
party uninstaller removing DLL files that are needed by the
       HP software.

You will know when this condition has occurred because you
may receive an error message similar to the following:

"The HPI_COMN.DLL file is linked to missing export file
       MFC42.DLL"

To restore the functionality of the HP software in these
conditions, uninstall and then reinstall the HP software.
The install process will copy the required files to your
       hard disk.

2.2 Fonts
---------
     * Using non-TrueType fonts can sometimes lead to
inconsistencies between the Print Preview and the actual
       printer output.

     * Font sizes greater than 100 points are not supported in
the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing Software.

2.3 Saving albums to CD-RW drives
---------------------------------
     * Some problems have been observed when trying to save an
album directly to a ReWritable CDROM (CD-RW) drive. If
you experience a problem with this, save the album to the
hard disk and then copy the album to the CD-RW.

2.4 Opening albums with Read-Only attributes
--------------------------------------------
     * The HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing software cannot open an
album with read-only attributes. If you experience
problems with this, copy the album, change the attributes
of the file to make it writable, and then open the copy
of the file from the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing software.

2.5 Installing or removing a printer
------------------------------------
     * Installing or removing a printer while the HP PhotoSmart
Photo Printing Software is running can cause the software
to exhibit strange behavior. Close the software before
       installing a new printer.

2.6 Clipping when printing 4x6 w/tab templates.
------------------------------------
     * Older printers require larger margins when printing to 4x6
paper. The installed 4x6 w/tab templates use a small .125
inch margin and hence clip when printed on an older
printer. To fix this problem, copy the files from the
Other Pages directory to the Pages directory (both located
in the directory where the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing
software was installed). You can then use the
"4x6 w/tab (wide margin)" templates when selecting
       page templates.

3.0 Windows NT 4.0 Notes
------------------------------------------------------------------

3.1 Windows NT Installation Issues
----------------------------------
     * To install or uninstall the HP Photo Printing Software in
Windows NT, you must have administrative privileges.

3.2 Windows NT Configuration Issues
-----------------------------------
     * When printing photos in Windows NT, it is often necessary
to configure the system to have more virtual memory.

     * Many software problems in Windows NT can be solved with
updated device drivers. The most common drivers that need
to be updated for the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing
software are video card drivers and printer drivers.
Usually the latest drivers for these components can be
found on the website of the component manufacturer.
