1.0 Installation Notes

1.1 Installation Information
----------------------------
* This release of the HP PhotoSmart C200 Camera

Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 3 or above). It is not
supported under Windows 3.x or prior versions of
Windows NT.
* The HP PhotoSmart C200 Camera software requires 150 MB
of free disk space on the disk drive you are installing
to. In addition, you must have at least 30MB free disk
space on the root drive.

1. Select Start Menu | Settings | Control Panel

------------------------------------------------------------------
2.0 Known Problems/Troubleshooting
------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1 Connecting to the Camera
----------------------------
* To use the digital camera, some conditions must be met:
- You must have an external COM port on your computer,
- The COM port must have the correct Windows 95 driver,
- The COM port must be properly enabled in the BIOS
settings,
- You must have a free IRQ to allocate to the COM port.
If you are in doubt about the configuration of all these
items, refer to the documentation that came with your
computer, or call the technical support department of the
company that manufactured your computer.
* The serial driver will attempt to automatically connect
to the camera using the best known communication settings.
To manually set the communications settings (COM Port and
baud rate) for your camera through the HP C200 Camera
Properties application. This application can be run from
the "C200 Camera->Tools & Information" group in your system
start menu. The "Comm Port Information" button in this
application can also be a good tool to diagnosing
communications problems.
* More information on connecting your camera to the computer
can be found in the "Downloading Photos" topic of the online
help.
2.2 What to do if the software stops functioning
------------------------------------------------
* It is possible to cause the HP PhotoSmart C200 Camera
Software to stop functioning when uninstalling other
third-party software packages. This is caused by the third-
party uninstaller removing DLL files that are needed by the
HP software.
You will know when this condition has occurred, because you
may receive an error message similar to the following:
"The HPI_COMN.DLL file is linked to missing export file
MFC42.DLL"
To restore the functionality of the HP software in these
conditions, uninstall and then reinstall the HP software.
The install process will copy the required files to your
hard disk.
2.3 PC Card Issues
------------------
* Always format Compact Flash cards for the camera in the
camera. Do not use Windows Explorer to format cards.
2.4 Unloading the Camera to a Network Drive
-------------------------------------------
* The HP C200 Camera Unload software cannot unload images
to network drives using the Uniform Naming Convention
(UNC) format. To accomplish this same task you can either
map the network drive to a drive letter or unload the
camera to your local hard disk and then copy the files to
to network drive.
2.5 Problems with the HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing Software
-----------------------------------------------------------
* There is a separate readme file for the HP PhotoSmart
Photo Printing software. Please reference this file
for any problems you may be experiencing with the
HP PhotoSmart Photo Printing software.
2.6 Interactions with Screen Savers or Advanced Power Management
----------------------------------------------------------------
* If you experience problems downloading images from the
camera while a screen saver or power management feature
has been activated, you may need to disable these
features during the download operation. The settings of
these features can be configured from the system control
panel.
------------------------------------------------------------------
3.0 Online Registration
------------------------------------------------------------------
3.1 Known Online Registration Defects
-------------------------------------
* The online registration does not work properly when the
machine is set for large fonts. To fix this set your
display to small fonts before running online registration.
* If the machine is set for a resolution of 640x480, some
screens of the online registration may not fit on the
screen unless the taskbar is moved.
* On some systems with the original Windows 95 Operating
system release, online registration may complain about a
missing DLL: oleaut32.dll. In most cases, you should be
able to continue with the online registration.
------------------------------------------------------------------
4.0 Interactions with Other Applications
------------------------------------------------------------------
4.1 Adobe PhotoDeluxe
---------------------
* Adobe PhotoDeluxe Ver. 1.0 can not accept a second picture
when one is already present. Version 2.0 works fine.
4.2 Adobe Image Styler
----------------------
* Adobe Image Styler Ver. 1.0 uses an older version of a
Microsoft library (MFC42.DLL) than does the HP PhotoSmart
software. To make Adobe Image Styler 1.0 work
correctly with the scanner, rename the MFC42.DLL in the
install directory of Image Styler to MFC42.DLL.OLD.
4.3 Ulead Photo Express
-----------------------
* The HP PhotoSmart software does not work properly
with Ulead Photo Express 1.0 when using TWAIN for most
large images. Contact Ulead to obtain patches to a
later version. At press time, more information was
available at http://www.ulead.com.
4.4 Live Pix
------------
* Live Pix 1.0 (from Live Picture) does not automatically
acquire images using the HP PhotoSmart software.
4.5 Softec VisualShot
---------------------
* Softec VisualShot Ver. 5.0 uses an older version of a
Microsoft library (MFC42.DLL) than does the HP PhotoSmart
software. To make this application work correctly
with the scanner, rename the MFC42.DLL in the install
directory of VisualShot to MFC42.DLL.OLD.
4.6 Corel Photo Paint
---------------------
* If you install Corel Photo Paint 7J after the installation
of the HP PhotoSmart software, the HP PhotoSmart software
may stop functioning. This problem has been fixed in
Corel Photo Paint 8J. Reinstalling the HP PhotoSmart
software will also fix this problem.
------------------------------------------------------------------
5.0 Windows NT 4.0 Notes
------------------------------------------------------------------
5.1 Windows NT Installation Issues
----------------------------------
* To install or uninstall the HP PhotoSmart Software in
Windows NT, you must have administrative privileges.
5.2 Windows NT Configuration Issues
-----------------------------------
* When printing photos in Windows NT, it is often necessary
to configure the system to have more virtual memory.
* Many software problems in Windows NT can be solved with
updated device drivers. The most common drivers that need
to be updated for the HP PhotoSmart software are video
card drivers and printer drivers. Usually the latest
drivers for these components can be found on the website
of the component manufacturer.
5.3 Known problems (Windows NT)
-------------------------------
* Using Corel Print House (version 3.0 or earlier) or Corel
Photo House (version 2.0 or earlier) to TWAIN acquire an
image from the HP PhotoSmart software can lock up a
Windows NT system. Corel has a fix for this problem in
newer versions of Print House and Photo House.
