README.TXT Driver File Contents (TCEs440.zip)

------------- Scanner Additional Information -----------------

Please read this file before using your scanner. It provides information that was
not available when the user's guide and on-line Help were produced.

1) Warm Up Time
Your scanner needs 45 seconds to warm up the first time you access
it from TaskBridge or via the Twain driver. It will remain on and ready to scan as long
as TaskBridge or the Twain driver is open (and the scanner detector is running).
It automatically turns off 30 minutes after closing TaskBridge or the Twain driver.
After this time it will require another 45 seconds to warm up before ready for use again.

2) IOMEGA ZIP Drive
The IOMEGA ZIP Drive with the parallel port pass through function has problems working
when connected to the scanner. If you use an IOMEGA ZIP DRIVE and you
also want to use the scanner at the same time, on the same machine, please use a Data
Switch to connect these two devices.

3) CANON BJC-6XX Printer
If you use a Canon BJC-6XX printer, sometimes the print function will be interrupted
by the Scanner Detector. To solve this problem, please close the Scanner Detector,
and then try again.

   To close the Scanner Detector:
	Under Windows 95/98/NT:
Move your mouse cursor to the Scanner Detector icon on the task bar, click the
right mouse button, and then choose close from the pop-up menu.

	Under Windows 3.1:
Minimize the Program Manager Window to find the Scanner Detector icon.
Move your mouse cursor to the icon, click the left mouse button,
and then choose close from the pop-up menu.

4) Disable Scanner Detector
After installation, the Scanner Detector appears every time you start your computer.
You can close it in the manner described above or prevent it from loading completely,
as follows:

   Edit the WIN.INI file:
	1. Use Notepad to open the WIN.INI file in your Windows folder.

	2. The first section should be entitled [Windows] and contain the entry:
		Load=C:\TBridge\flatbed.exe

	3. After "Load", delete "C:\TBridge\flatbed.exe", so that after editing
		the file appears as:
		[windows]
		~other entries~
		Load=

*Note: After editing the WIN.INI and restarting Windows, your scanner's start button
is disabled. To enable it, you need to run the detector. When disabled, you can
	  start TaskBridge as follows:
	  1. Windows 95/98/NT: GO to start menu, find TaskBridge in program sub-menu, and run it.
 	  2. Windows 3.1: Find TaskBridge group, then run the program file.

*Caution: Take care when editing the WIN.INI file, incorrect changes or any additions
may cause unwelcome side-effects or even cause Windows to have problems launching.

5) Printer with bi-directional function
If your printer's bi-directional function is enabled, the scan function will be interrupted. Please disable the bi-directional function in the printer property sheet.

6) TaskBridge Photo function
To transfer images to PhotoShop or PaintBrush (under Windows 3.1) or MS Paint (under
Windows 95/98/NT) from TaskBridge, please ensure that the application is closed before transfer.
If you don't close the application, the image cannot be transferred.

7) For Windows NT users
Windows NT is more memory consuming than other Windows O/S. To avoid system error:"Virtual memory not enough," please increase your system's memory to at least 32MB and/or increase your system's virtual memory.
