RELEASE NOTES *********************************** 1 *************************************** *************************** INSTALLATION NOTES ****************************** ***************************************************************************** INSTALLING OVER EXISTING TABLET DRIVERS --------------------------------------- If you have previously installed tablet drivers on your system, you must remove them and reboot your computer before attempting to install the SummaSoft drivers. The 'Remove' option in Setup will only remove previously installed Summagraphics tablet drivers. For instructions on removing drivers for a tablet manufactured by another company, you should refer to the documentation supplied with that tablet. BASIC INSTALLATION PROCEDURE ---------------------------- All tablet drivers are installed using the Summagraphics SETUP program provided on the tablet drivers diskette. The SETUP program will also allow you to install your drivers in a directory of your own choosing, and as mentioned before can be used to remove existing Summagraphics Windows NT drivers. Please read the other sections of this document specific to the driver(s) you wish to install before doing the installation. After you have connected your tablet to your computer's serial port and connected the tablet power supply, follow this procedure to install or remove drivers: - Boot up Windows NT. - Close all open applications, and disable any active Virus Detection software. - Insert the Summagraphics driver diskette into your computer. - In the Program Manager window type ALT-F, R(un), A:\SETUP (or B:\SETUP), and then press Enter. - Follow the instructions presented on the computer screen. The Summagraphics SETUP program allows you to selectively install or remove any or all of the available drivers for your tablet. When the driver selection screen is presented, be sure to mark only those drivers you wish to install or remove. Note: The cordless pointing devices automatically deactivate themselves after a few minutes of non-use. Simply press button one on the pointing device to reactivate the device. Button one is the tip on the pen. REMOVING THE NT DRIVERS ----------------------- The drivers must be removed using the Summasoft SETUP program. This will automatically remove all driver files and associated Registry entries. You must reboot your computer to complete the removal process. NOTES ON NT 3.51 SERVICE PACKS ------------------------------ Fix for cursor sluggishness under NT 3.51 following an install of any NT Service Pack. This fix replaces the version of CSRSRV.DLL installed by any Service Pack, with the original CSRSRV.DLL from the 1057 build of NT 3.51. For this fix you will need the original 3.51 NT CD-ROM or Floppy Set. - From a DOS prompt under NT, see if EXPAND does in fact exist on the hard disk. This can be easily done by typing EXPAND and hitting <enter>, which will give the copyright header and the "no files specified" error warning. - If it does exist, it needs to be v2.50 or better to work. If it's an older version, then it must be copied from the CD or Floppy set to the HD, specifically to the NT \SYSTEM32 directory. 1) From a DOS prompt under NT, expand the CSRSRV.DL_ file on your original NT 3.51 CD or floppy to some temporary location on the HD. For example: EXPAND CSRSRV.DL_ C:\CSRSRV.DLL It is not recommended that the \TEMP directory be used, as this directory tends to get purged when you least expect it. 2) Exit the DOS box, exit NT, and reboot to a standard DOS environment. If you have a NTFS only system and can not boot DOS contact Summagraphics Technical Suppport. 3) Copy the expanded CSRSRV.DLL to the \SYSTEM32 directory of NT. For example: COPY C:\CSRSRV.DLL C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\CSRSRV.DLL You'll be prompted as to whether or not you wish to replace the file. Hit Y to replace. 4) Reboot the system into NT. NOTES ON ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES --------------------------------- Problem description: Changes in Control Panel are not saved unless you are logged into a NT account with Administrator privileges. We are currently working with the InstallShield people on a real fix, until then here is a manual fix: 1) Log into a NT account with Administrator privileges. 2) Run the advanced version of the NT Registry Editor from the following directory: \NT\SYSTEM32\REGEDT32.EXE 3) Select/highlight the following key/folder. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Service\tabport\Parameters 4) Select Permissions from the Security pull down menu. 5) Select/highlight "Everyone". 6) Change the Type of Access: to "Full Control" from the popup menu in the lower right corner of the dialog box. 7) Hit OK, Exit and your done. ********************************** 2 **************************************** ************************** SUPPORTED TABLETS ******************************** ***************************************************************************** The following tablets are supported by this version of the driver: Summa Expression SummaPad SummaScribe (*) SummaSketch 6x9 (*) SummaSketch II series SummaSketch III series SummaSketch FX series Summa Expert series SummaFlex Summagrid IV series Microgrid III and Ultra series (*) See notes below regarding this tablet.
