Directions.txt Driver File Contents (BIOSupdatesoftware.zip)

Hi, 05/28/2003

VERY IMPORTANT: This file is for AMIBIOS bios. If you want to make
sure you are running AMIBIOS, open this program I have supplied from
AMIBIOS(American Megatrends, Inc.) on today's date 05/27/03:

To check that your BIOS is really AMIBIOS run: AMIMBID

For MY computer example click on MYRESULTS.txt (note the 0930, this used
to say 0101).

Also, note this bios is for versions 01. If you need to get
for version 5 or 6, please see the american site for PCCHIPS,
at PCWAVE.COM. If you have PCCHIPS, please note that there is another site
           called www.pcwave.com.

           Directions to Flash your Bios:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First , copy/paste to save the (BIOS program and FLASH rom) 2 files to a GOOD blank Floppy
Disk, the 2 flash files are:

1) 5982K0930s from PCCWAVE (TM) at www.pcwave.com and
2) aminf336 from AmericanMegatrends (TM) at www.americanmegatrends.com.

Second, double click on the Dos 6.22 installation file (for WIN2000 users) and save these files
on a second blank Floppy Disk. For Win98/95 users, just reboot to DOS, you don't need a 2nd
floppy disk. You will now use this disk to boot to Dos, so you can do your
flash bios in a pure Dos environment.

Next, restart your computer, and enter SETUP during memory check which is usually the
DELete key or F1. In order to make sure your computer will now boot from Floppy Drive, goto
the 2nd part in Setup listing (Advanced), change boot order to Floppy.

Your Dos floppy is in floppy drive.
Save Setup, and Restart.

After Dos installs from Floppy drive or restarted computer for Win98/95 users, run the following
commands at the A:> prompt:

A:\CLS
A:\AMINF336 2k0930s.ROM

This will update versions of PCCHIPS m598LMR (also known as Amptron,
Hsing, SIS530). If done correctly, it will say: Old BIOS date, New BIOS
date, etc. It then asks if you want to proceed with flash. Hit Enter,
and you will see a status bar. The system will automatically reboot.
After computer restarts, it may give you an error, this is normal after bios update.

Enter Setup again Del key.

Do that and make sure the settings on the first section for
Hard Drives (CMOS settings) is set correctly. Click F3 to auto load your hard drives.

ESC out, and then click on 2nd section(Advanced) and change back boot settings IDE0 (hard drive)
from floppy drive you changed earlier to go to DOS.

ESC, go to other section, and change your CPU to Maximum Speed. This gets changed back to its
default, so you need to change it back. Also, one other change I noticed was that if your
using AGP for Video, and not PCI video card, change this back to AGP. Assign IRQ to PCI = no.

ESC, change back other sections, but I think I have jotted down the most important ones here.

Arrow down to SAVE, and exit. Your done, your new bios should be set to
09/30/00. This upgrade worked great for me very well. I know how nervous I felt, that I
possibly did not get the right files, but if you have a m598lmr pcchips(001437), then this
upgrade should work effectively.

I know it takes a little time,
but for those of you wishing to upgrade their hard drives, this file
should do just that, although I have not tested it out on a Hard Drive
over 32 GB yet. 32GB was my default, I was thinking it was 8GB, but that sounds too low. I have
a few 4GB drives on my system now.

I am purchasing a 80GB drive this week, and may check back here to let you
know if my upgrade was successful enough I can do without most new hard drives manufacturers
bios overlay software (which I am trying to avoid by flashing bios).

So far so good, I typed
this all out after upgrading my bios from 01/01/2000S to 09/30/2000S without any problems,
except I forgot that the upgrade resets your Setup/CMOS settings, and I had to go back into
Setup and change them to their maximum, like CPU speed, AGP or PCI video driver, boot from IDE 0,
as explained above.

Good luck!

Remember, never restart your computer during this operation, but you knew
that right? If done correctly, the flash program will do it for you.

;) The end.
