Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card Setup for Novell NetWare ----------------------------------------------------------------- Before You Begin Setup Automatic NETX Workstation Setup Automatic VLM Workstation Setup NetWare Lite Setup Personal NetWare Setup NET.CFG Keyword Guide Before You Begin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for choosing the Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card. Before attempting to install the card, we highly recommend that you read the User Guide that came with your card in order to install both your PCMCIA socket & card services AND your network driver. The instructions printed below explain how to set up a Novell NetWare workstation. The instructions below describe three methods for setting up a Novell workstation: • The automatic NETX setup will install the files necessary to log a computer into a Novell 3.x or 4.x file server using IPX and/or ODI. This is recommended for standard, 16-bit, DOS, and/or gaming applications. See the directions below. • Automatic VLM setup will install the files necessary to log into a 3.x or 4.x file server using VLMs. • The Client32 Setup for Windows 95 installs the Novell NetWare Client32 drivers for Windows 95 onto your computer, which allows your PC to log into a Novell NetWare 4.x file server. SEE THE CLIENT32 DIRECTORY ON THE ETHERFAST DRIVER DISK FOR DIRECTIONS. Automatic NETX Workstation Setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you begin, you should already have installed a socket & card services package or program that will allow your computer to recognize the Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card. You can use your own services or the generic services that are included on the PC Card driver disk. If you are using the generic services, load them into memory from your computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT file each time your system is started up, and always before any network drivers are loaded. For more information about services, see page 9. Insert the PC Card driver disk into drive A and run the install.exe program. To run the program from DOS, for example, you would type a:\install and press Enter. Select NetWare 3.x or 4.x Workstation from the list and press Enter. The default setup settings will appear. To change the settings, select Modify Parameters and make any I/O or IRQ changes necessary. To begin the installation, choose Start Installation. The program will copy the necessary NetWare files to your computer, then modify your system's AUTOEXEC.BAT and NET.CFG files automatically. When the installation is complete, restart your computer to log into NetWare. Automatic VLM Workstation Setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you begin, you should already have installed a socket & card services package or program that will allow your computer to recognize the PC Card. You can use your own services or the generic services that are included on the PC Card driver disk. For best results, load the services into memory from your computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT file each time your system is started up, and always before any network drivers are loaded. For more information about services. Run Novell's INSTALL.EXE Client Install program. Answer all of the questions on the screen. When you reach question 5, press Enter to choose a network board or adapter. Scroll down in the list to OTHER DRIVERS and hit Enter. Put the PC Card driver disk into drive A. Type a:\netware and press Enter. Choose Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card and press Enter. Set your I/O Port, Interrupt, and Media Frame Type values. The I/O Port and Interrupt values should be the same numbers you chose when you installed your PCMCIA socket & card services. Keep the Node Address field empty. When you're finished, press F10 to save your settings, then press Enter to start the VLM installation. When the installation is complete, press Enter to exit the program. Restart your computer. After rebooting, type F: at the DOS prompt (or the appropriate network drive letter) and LOGIN. NetWare Lite ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Follow the normal installation procedure as described by your NetWare Lite directions. When prompted for a network driver, simply choose "NOVELL NE2000". 2. After completion of the installation procedure, modify the following lines in your STARTNET.BAT file from: LSL NE2000 IPXODI A CLIENT to: LSL NP100 IPXODI A CLIENT 3. Run STARTNET to access the Novell network. Personal NetWare ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Follow the normal installation procedure as described by Personal Netware. 2. When prompted to choose a network driver, select "Other Network Support Driver." When asked to supply the path to the proper drivers, insert the PC Card driver disk into drive A and type A:\NETWARE 3. After the installation is complete, run STARTNET to access the network. NET.CFG Keyword Guide ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The NET.CFG file is used by NetWare to maintain your workstation's configuration settings. A sample NET.CFG is shown below, along with explanations of the various key words. Note that a semi-colon mark (;) at the beginning of a line disables that line, and that all lines after the "Link Driver NP100" command must be indented over to the right 5 spaces as shown. NET.CFG ------- Link Driver NP100 INT 11 PORT 320 ; frame Ethernet_802.3 frame Ethernet_802.2 ; frame Ethernet_II ; frame Ethernet_SNAP ; Protocol IPX 00 Ethernet_802.3 Protocol IPX E0 Ethernet_802.2 ; Protocol IPX 8137 Ethernet_II The hardware settings must match the PCMCIA driver layer provides. PORT - This keyword specifies the I/O base address used by the adapter. This value must match the actual I/O base address setting on the adapter. If this keyword is not specified, the default value will be put into effect. INT - This keyword specifies the interrupt line used by the adapter. This value must match the actual IRQ setting on the adapter. If this keyword is not specified, the default value will be put into effect. FRAME - This keyword specifies the supported frame types. Four types are available: ETHERNET_802.3, ETHERNET_802.2, ETHERNET_II and ETHERNET_SNAP.Download Driver Pack
