  Before You Begin
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  Thanks for choosing the Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card.  Before
  attempting to install the card, we highly recommend that you read
  the User Guide that came with your card.

  The instructions below explain how to get Phoenix's PCM+
  socket & card services up and running with the PC Card.



  Setup
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------

  Phoenix's PCM+ services work by maintaining a library
  of PCMCIA cards that you use.  The library contains
  information that tells the services how to initialize your
  cards for use each time your computer is started.

  Before continuing, make sure that you've already
  installed the Phoenix PCM+ software, and that you have
  version 3.0 or above.

  If you are using Phoenix PCM+ version 4, follow the
  instructions below.  Version 3 instructions follow after below.


Phoenix PCM+ Version 4.x Setup

  1.  Install your Phoenix software if you haven't already.

  2.  Remove the PC Card from your computer if it is
       in your PCMCIA slot.  Start up your computer and
       get  to a DOS command prompt.  If your computer
       starts up in Windows, shut Windows down
       completely.


  3.  Once you're at a DOS command prompt (C:\>),
       slide the PC Card into one of your PC's
       PCMCIA slots.

  4.  Locate the directory where your Phoenix software is
       installed.  It may be called PCM, PCMPLUS,
       PCM40,  or something similar, depending on the
       version of  PCM that you are using.

  5.    Once you locate the directory where the PCM files
         are located, switch to that directory.  If the files
         were in a directory called C:\PCM, for example,
         you would type cd c:\pcm and press Enter.

   6.  Once inside the directory, type PCM and press
       Enter.   A General Information Screen will appear.
       The card should appear in the screen as
       an unconfigured device.  If the device isn't listed,
       you may be looking at the wrong information screen.
       Press the Page Up or Page Down keys on your
       keyboard to move through the screen(s) until you
       come to the one for the PC Card.

  7.  Press the Alt and C keys together to select the
       Configure menu option.  Select Add Card to list and
       press Enter.

       Press the Tab key repeatedly until your cursor comes
       to the I/O Window 1 settings box.

       Type 300, then press the Tab key.  Enter 31F,
       followed by Enter.

       When asked if you want to validate, answer Yes.
       When asked if you want to save, answer Yes.


       When you're finished, press Alt-V, followed by X to
       exit the program.  Restart your computer.  The
       Phoenix socket & card services for the PC Card
       are now fully configured.

       Install your network driver for your network software
       package now as described in your PC Card user
       guide.


Phoenix PCM+ Version 3.x Setup

  1.  Load your system's CONFIG.SYS file into your
       favorite text editor or word processor for editing.

  2.  Scroll through the file.  Find the line that reads
       DEVICE=EMM386.EXE.  It will probably be
       located near the beginning of the file.

       If you don't find this line anywhere in your
       CONFIG.SYS file, type it in now, shown exactly as
       above.  The line should come immediately after your
       CONFIG.SYS file's HIMEM.SYS command, like
       this:

          DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
          DEVICE=EMM386.EXE

       After locating or inserting the EMM386 line, you'll
       need to add a parameter to the end of it in order to
       reserve an area of memory for the PC Card's
       client enabler to use.  Add the following command to
       the end of the EMM386 line:

        NOEMS X=D000-D7FF

       so that the new EMM386 line now looks something
       like this (it may vary slightly):

        DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D7FF


       If there are already commands on the EMM386 line,
       try not to disturb them when you add the NOEMS
       X=D000-D7FF.  When you're finished, save the file.

  3.  Find the PCM.EXE program on your hard disk --
       this is the Phoenix services configuration program
       for DOS.  The program is usually contained in the
       same directory where your other Phoenix PCM+
       files are located.  After locating the file, run it.
       If the file was located under a directory called
       PCMPLUS, for example, you could run it from the
       DOS prompt by typing:

           C:\PCMPLUS\PCM.EXE

  4.  Follow the instructions that came with your Phoenix
       software to set up a new PCMCIA card with the
       following settings:


        Memory Window #1        D000-D1ff
        Memory Window #2        D200-D2ff
        I/O Window #1           300h-31Fh
        I/O Window #2           None
        IRQ                     5


  5.  Save the new settings and restart your PC.  The
       PC Card should now be recognized by the
       Phoenix Card and Socket Services.

  If you receive any errors while the Phoenix services
  are loading, you may need to change the IRQ or I/O
  address that the PC Card is using.
