This Driver Kit contains files modified by a few various Voodoo community
users from the x3dfx discussion board (www.x3dfx.com) who have gotten
together to release what we consider the "toolbox" for the Voodoo 4/5
family of cards.
These drivers may, depending on your 3dfx tools settings, improve
performance, but have been varefied at default settings to not improve
perforformance over standard x3dfx 1.07 drivers. The main focus of this
driver set is to make available to users previously unreleased registry
modification options to allow the user maximum tweaking abilities...

What's in the distribution?
=======================================================================

This distribution contains Voodoo drivers and control panel for 
Windows 9x/ME. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D 
when using DirectX 8.0

Installation
=======================================================================

Voodoo VSA (4/5) Owners:

Extract the drivers to a temp folder, using Winzip.
RIGHT CLICK "My Computer" click PROPERTIES.
Click DEVICE MANAGER, and make sure "view devices by type" is selected.
Go to DISPLAY ADAPTERS, and right click on your Voodoo card, then click PROPERTIES.
Now click DRIVERS then UPDATE DRIVER.
SPECIFY THE LOCATION OF A DRIVER then point it to the temp folder you extracted the drivers to.
There will be TWO INF files, double click "3dfxvs.inf" and away you go.

Voodoo 3 x000 Owners:

-Extract the drivers to a temp folder, using Winzip.
-RIGHT CLICK "My Computer" click PROPERTIES.
-Click DEVICE MANAGER, and make sure "view devices by type" is selected.
-Go to DISPLAY ADAPTERS, and right click on your Voodoo card, then click PROPERTIES.
-Now click DRIVERS then UPDATE DRIVER.
-SPECIFY THE LOCATION OF A DRIVER then point it to the temp folder you extracted the drivers to.
-There will be TWO INF files, double click "Voodoo3.inf" and away you go.10)
-Install DirectX 8.0 or later.
   Get it from: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/
-Use overclock.exe if you wish to overclock your card,
    though it is NOT recommended and can permanently damage your card!
-Run Hztool.exe in HzTool folder to set up your correct monitor
    refresh rates.

Troubleshooting
=======================================================================

I'm getting kicked to the desktop while playing games...  this tends to happen after a while of playing, but can happen at any time...  anything I can do?

-RIGHT CLICK on "My Computer." Click Properties.
Click PERFORMANCE, then GRAPHICS. Drop that slider one notch. It'll ask you if you want to reboot, say no.

-Also, in some cases where "DirectSound" is used, you can boost stability if you:
Click START, then RUN. Type:

dxdiag

and press enter. Go to the tab labled "SOUND." There's another acceleration slider. Lower that one notch, as well.

Don't worry, this all doesn't reduce sound quality, or slow down games - but it should boost the stability!

My monitor won't go to it's highest resolutions / bit depth, what's the deal with that?

-Change your monitor selection on the display properties page by following the 
following these instructions:

Right click an empty spot on the desktop and click PROPERTIES.
Click SETTINGS, then ADVANCED, then click the MONITOR tab.
Now Install the driver for your exact monitor...  these can usually be found on a disk included with the monitor, on the manufacturer's website, or just check http://www.driverguide.com .

My Direct3d games won't load with your guys' drivers anymore, I'm gonna come to your homes and...

-HOLD on there!!  First, we need you to look in the "3dfx Advanced Features" menu, under Direct3D.  Scroll down to "3Dstudio Plug-In" and DISABLE it.

Quake 3 Arena, menus missing and / or game plays like classic id game DOOM when you're stuck in a wall after using idspispopd (idclip)

-Make sure "Z-Culling Far" is set to no more than 1% Culling, or temporarily Disable Z-Culling.

UnrealTournament is displaying strange artifacts...

-Set "Z-Culling Far" to 15% to cut glitches back, 1% to remove nearly all graphical errors.

Direct3D Applications freeze a lot, as soon as I try to move / D3D graphics look like alpha HSR is in use (tons of graphical glitches).

-DISABLE D3D's "Geometry Assist" and reboot.

-Well, we're glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and since nobody's forcing you to use them get over it.  ;-)

Rather than getting THAT kind of response to our drivers from YOU, we'd hope you would give us constrctive criticism and help us make future drivers better - we can't do it without you!
