***************************************************************************** WaveMANAGER/CLIENT software version 1.16 WaveLAN Diagnostic Utility for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT May, 1997 Copyright (c) 1997 Lucent Technologies Inc. ***************************************************************************** WaveMANAGER/CLIENT is a diagnostic utility that provides a Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT oriented user-interface to monitor wireless performance of WaveLAN wireless networks. To run the utility, you need to have the WaveLAN Miniport Driver version 1.16 installed. Miniport Drivers are designed to run under the Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT Operating Systems. As Windows for Workgroups (v.3.x) runs on the MS-DOS operating system, you can not use WaveMANAGER/CLIENT under Windows for Workgroups. Table of Contents: 1. About the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT 2. File Names and Function ***************************************************************************** 1. About WaveMANAGER/CLIENT. ============================================== WaveMANAGER/CLIENT combines the diagnostic functionalities that were previously supported by the following MS-DOS-based WaveLAN utilities. * Point-to-Point Diagnostics (ptpdiag.exe) * WaveMONITOR (wmonitor.exe) * WaveLAN Frequency Select Utility (wfreqsel.exe) * Access Control Table Manager (wpaccess.exe) WaveMANAGER/CLIENT enables you to: * Perform a 'LINK TEST' to diagnose the wireless connection between two WaveLAN stations, or between a WaveLAN station and a WavePOINT access point. * Run the 'SITE MONITOR' to diagnose the wireless coverage of your network environment. * Change the operating frequency of the WaveLAN Card in the monitoring station. * Edit a Access Control Table file or append the MAC address of the monitoring station to the Access Control Table file. Note: The SITE MONITOR is only available when the monitoring station is equipped with a WavewLAN/PCMCIA Card. WaveMANAGER/CLIENT is installed with on-line help documentation that will describe the various diagnostic options, and explain the displayed WaveLAN parameters. 2. System Requirements. ============================================== To install/run the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT, you will need a computing device that: * Runs the Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT operating system. * Has the WaveLAN Miniport Driver installed (version 1.16) If your computer does not have the correct driver installed, the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT will not work, but prompt you to (re)-install the correct WaveLAN Miniport Driver. 3. Installation Notes. ============================================== The WaveMANAGER/CLIENT program and the WaveLAN Miniport Driver v. 1.16 are compressed to a self-executing zipfile called 'wmclient.exe'. To extract the files, * Open an MS-DOS Window * Move to the diskdrive and directory where you saved the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT software (e.g.: A:\ or C:\TEMP). * At the prompt type: wmcclient.exe -d Where the command line parameter -d is required to rebuild the required directory tree of the waveMANAGER/CLIENT program and the WaveLAN Miniport Driver. The WaveMANAGER/CLIENT does not have a 'Setup' utility that will upgrade the driver. This should be done manually. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UPGRADING THE WAVELAN MINIPORT DRIVER SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY A SKILLED LAN ADMINISTRATOR OR SUPPORT ENGINEER THAT HAS A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE WINDOWS 95 AND WINDOWS NT OPERATING SYTEM. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE DESCRIBED ON THE WEB- PAGE FROM WHERE YOU DOWNLOADED THE SOFTWARE PRIOR TO MODIFYING THE NETWORK ADAPTER SETUP, OR STARTING THE UPGRADE PROCEDURE. SEE: HTTP://WWW.WAVELAN.COM/SUPPORT/WMAN_CL.HTM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4. Technical Constraints. ============================================== Although WaveLAN/ISA cards support the 'autoconnect' to WavePOINT access points, the hardware design of these cards does not support the full 'Roaming Functionality', required to run the Site Monitor. Therefor it is not possible to run the Site Monitor on computing devices equipped with WaveLAN/ISA cards. For this type of stations the Site Monitor Selector will be 'greyed out'. 5. Known potential problems. ============================================== 5.1 'DRIVER NOT FOUND' This error message appears when you are trying to run the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT program on a computer that has an incompatible version of the WaveLAN Miniport Driver installed. 6. File Names and Function ==================================================== The self-executing file wmclient.exe will unpack the files listed below in two different subdirectories of the directory where you saved the downloaded file 'wmclient.exe'. For example if you chose to save the file wmclient to your harddisk directory 'C:\Program Files\WaveLAN', Files associated with the WaveLAN Miniportdriver v.1.16 will be extracted to: C:\Program Files\WaveLAN\Drivers\ * wvlan22.sys (Windows 95 & Windows NT) * wvlan22.inf (Windows 95) * wv2uif.vxd (Windows 95) * oemsetup.inf (Windows NT) * wvlan22.hlp (Windows NT) * wvlan22.dll (Windows NT) Files associated with the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT program v.1.16 will be extracted to: C:\Program Files\WaveLAN\WMANAGER\CLIENT\ * wman_cl.exe (WaveMANAGER/CLIENT program file). * wman_cl.hlp (associated winhelp file). If you would like to install the WaveLAN Miniport Driver or WaveMANAGER/CLIENT program on another Windows 95 or Windows NT computer, you are advised to copy these files to a floppy disk and label the disk 'WaveLAN Miniport Driver v.1.16 for Windows 95 and Windows NT. 7.
