I. Installation Notes for MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT
Please refer to the IEEE 802.11 WaveLAN User's Guide for the
description of the software installation. This section contains
additional information and corrections only.
I.1. Removing the WaveLAN/IEEE driver from a MS-Windows 95 computer
=======================================================
1. Go to the "Network Neighborhood" icon on your display and click
on the right mouse button, then select "Properties".
2. At the "Network" screen click at "WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card", then
"Remove" button and "OK".
The following steps 3-7 are needed only when you currently have
installed PC Card Software with a version number lower than 2.00.
Starting with version 2.00 (NDIS driver 1.38) the files will be
removed automatically, and you can proceed with step 8.
3. DO NOT confirm restarting computer.
4. Go to Windows Explorer to the "Win_Dir\System" directory, where
"Win_Dir is the directory where your Windows 95 OS is located,
by default it has name "Windows".
5. Remove Wvlan41.sys and Wvlanuif.vxd (*).
6. Goto the Win_Dir\Inf directory.
7. Remove Wvlan41.inf or Wvlan41n.inf, whichever is present (*).
8. Restart your computer.
Your driver is now removed.
(* Notice that the PC Card User's Guide refers wrongly to these
files as WVLAN43.SYS and WVUIF.VXD and WVLAN43.INF)
I.2. Installation under MS-Windows NT 4.0
=======================================================
a) Enabling the PC Card Controller for the WaveLAN ISA Card.
When you install Windows NT on a computer after you installed the
WaveLAN ISA Card hardware, Windows NT will automatically start the
PC Card Controller.
When you install the WaveLAN ISA Card in a computer that has Windows NT
already installed, you probably have to start the PC Card Controller
manually:
1. Go to "Control Panel", and select "Devices".
2. In the list of devices, select "PCMCIA".
3. If "PCMCIA" is "Disabled", Select "Startup", and Select "Boot".
4. Restart your computer.
5. The PC Card Controller is now enabled.
6. Follow the WaveLAN Miniport Driver installation as described in
the User's Guide.
b) I/O Port
The WaveLAN Card's default I/O Port value under Windows NT is 0400.
I.3. PC Card Memory Address under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT

The WaveLAN Card does not need a PC Card Memory Address.
I.4. I/O Port conflicts under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT
=======================================================
When your WaveLAN Card's installation completed successfully, but it
does not become operational (WaveMANAGER/CLIENT reports "WaveLAN card
not operational"), you are advised to try a different I/O Port value.
The Windows Resource Manager does not always detect a conflict.
This problem has been noticed under Windows 95 OSR 0, Windows 98,
and Windows NT 4.0.
I.5. Updating the WaveLAN/IEEE driver under MS-Windows 98
=======================================================
1. Go to the "My Computer" icon on your display and click on the
right mouse button, then select "Properties".
2. At the "Device Manager" screen click at "Network Adapters" and
select the "WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card".
3. At the "Driver" screen, click the "Update Driver" button.
4. Follow the Installation Wizard guidelines.

III. Change History
Version information of software and firmware can easily be displayed
via the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT panel Diagnose Card - Version Info.
Updates of the software and firmware are made available via our
WEB-site (www.wavelan.com) regularly.
III.1. Software (drivers and utilities)
=======================================================
Following are the functional enhancements and major bug fixes
of this PC Card software:
Version 2.00 February 1999
* The user can now enable Card Power Management:
- This function should not be enabled until
Station Functions firmware (v2.00 or higher) and
WavePOINT-II Access Point software (v2.04 or higher)
that supports Card Power Management, is installed.
In case Card Power Management is nevertheless enabled before
this firmware is installed, the driver will not effectuate
Card Power Management, and the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT will
display a warning.
* The software now also supports the Bronze and Silver cards.
* WaveMANAGER/CLIENT version 1.30:
- The Link Test screen is now updated in case the Access Point
is reset to operate on another channel.
* NDIS Miniport Driver version 1.38:
- Ad-Hoc Demo Mode did not work under NT, when a local MAC
address was specified, with NetBEUI. This is now corrected.
- A user-configured MAC address is now automatically converted
to be a local MAC address in case it is entered differently.
Version 1.03 December 1998
* WaveMANAGER/CLIENT version 1.28:
- Site Monitor function has been added.
This function enables the WaveLAN station user to obtain
and display information about Access Points that are
within range, including real-time measured connection
quality information of the communication links.
This function requires NDIS Miniport driver version 1.32
(or higher), and Station Functions firmware version 1.18
(or higher).
The new WaveMANAGER/CLIENT can work with older driver and
firmware, but then it will not make the Site Monitor
function available.
Note that this function can cause normal data messages sent
to this station to be lost.
- WaveMANAGER/CLIENT incorrectly reported a Hardware/Firmware
mismatch with Station Functions firmware version 1.16.
WaveMANAGER/CLIENT version 1.28 corrects this error.
* NDIS Miniport Driver version 1.32:
- Provides support for the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT Site Monitor
function.
Version 1.02 November 1998
* WaveMANAGER/CLIENT version 1.26 and
NDIS Miniport driver version 1.30:
- Problem is resolved that caused the Link Test to fail on
some cards.
Version 1.01 August 1998
* NDIS Miniport Driver version 1.28:
- Functions now under MS Windows NT 4.0.
- Boot problem in certain machines has been fixed.
- Reliability of Firmware Download has been improved.
* All drivers now support the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation.
This is a non IEEE mode for an Independent Network (i.e. a
MAC-layer peer-to-peer network without an Access Point), that
is not interoperable with other vendors IEEE 802.11 products.
When this mode is selected, communication takes place in the
factory-installed default channel of the card.
* WaveMANAGER/CLIENT version 1.26:
- User can now add text to log entries.
- If the name of the AP is not available, its MAC address
is given in the Status screen, rather than "unknown".
- Protection is added to avoid that two utilities can
connect to the driver simultaneously.
III.2. Firmware ("embedded software")
=======================================================
Following are the functional enhancements and major bug fixes
of the PC Card firmware ("embedded software") that is delivered
on the card or through updates via our WEB-site:
* Station Functions firmware (Variant 1)
Version 1.28 February 1999
- The firmware now also supports the Bronze and Silver cards.
- The "promiscuous mode", that supports LAN Analyzer type
applications, has been corrected.
- Although in a busy environment it is still possible that
a Station occasionally roams unnecessarily to another AP,
the likeliness of this is reduced significantly.
- A problem that certain Beacon Intervals combined with certain
DTIM Periods caused the firmware to halt, has been corrected.
- The Site Monitor function could cause the station to roam to
an AP of a different network. This has been corrected in
version 1.28.
Version 1.18 December 1998
- Provides support for the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT Site Monitor
function.
- Fallback data rate was not used on Link Test Responses. Version
1.18 corrects this error.
- Fallback data rate was not being used on data re-transmissions,
as it was intended (instead the fallback rate was being used
on the next frame). Version 1.18 corrects this error.
- The Defer and Carrier Detect Thresholds were not set according
to the AP Density configuration parameter. Version 1.18
corrects this error.
Version 1.16 November 1998
- In some cases (depending on individual card and/or computer
hardware type) the WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card in a station, with
Station Functions firmware 1.14, does not associate with the
Access Point, and therefore does not establish the network
connection. Version 1.16 corrects this error.
Version 1.14 October 1998
- Solves problems, that under certain (heavy load) conditions
may result in data duplication or corruption, and can result
in loss of network connection.
- Solves problem that caused the auto rate fallback mechanism
to fail. When configured for "2 Mbit/s auto fallback", the
card now falls back to 1 Mbit/s if the situation requires so.
- Errors in the Link Test messages have been corrected. These
errors did not affect normal use of the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT
LinkTest feature, but they were visible in the information
display of this feature.
- The RTS/CTS Duration field is corrected which results in
slightly more efficient use of the medium.
- Some problems with tallies are resolved. (Other problems with
tallies remain and are known.)
- A problem whereby the Link Test quality suddenly drops
unrealistically low is resolved.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
