Installing a WaveLAN/IEEE station on OS MS-Windows 95 ======================================================= 1. Make sure you have the MS-Windows 95 diskettes/CD-ROM at hand. 2. Insert the card into a PCMCIA slot of your computer, you should get a screen "New hardware found", with description of it as "Lucent Technologies-WaveLAN/IEEE". You will be asked about location of the driver for new hardware. 3. Put the driver diskette into your floppy drive and click OK. You should see a window saying that driver found in appropriate floppy drive. 4. Click OK to confirm selection. You now arrive at the "WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card properties" screen. Set the WaveLAN_Network_Name to the WaveLAN Network Name as defined by your WavePOINT Access Point. 5. Click OK. A "Copying files" screen will pop up which asks for files on your wavelan diskette and MS-Windows 95 diskettes/CD-ROM. On some computers the MS-Windows 95 files are also stored on your hard drive. Your card is now installed. 2. Removing the WaveLAN/IEEE driver from your computer ======================================================= 1. Go to the "Network Neighborhood" icon on your display and click on the right mouse button, then select "Properties". 2. At the "Network" screen click at WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card", then "Remove" button and "OK". 3. DO NOT confirm restarting computer. 4. Go to Windows Explorer to the "Win_Dir\System" directory, where "Win_Dir is the directory where your Windows 95 OS is located, by default it has name "Windows". 5. Remove Wvlan41.sys and Wvlanuif.vxd. 6. Goto the Win_Dir\Inf directory. 7. Remove Wvlan41.inf. 8. Restart your computer. Your driver is now removed. 3. Installing the Card Access Driver ======================================================= Note: The WaveLAN PC Card User's Guide refers to the incorrect name "wavecad.sys" for the Card Access Driver. The correct name to use is "wvlancad.sys". The driver contained on this diskette uses the correct name. This driver supplies the facilities to the WaveLAN/IEEE Packet driver WVLAN42.COM and the DOS ODI driver WVLAN43.COM to access the Network Interface Card (NIC) via an Intel 82365 PCIC. The behavior of the driver is controlled via a command line parameters. Each parameter specification consists of a slash followed by a single letter, followed by a equal-sign, followed by a value. Parameters must be separated by white space. The driver must be loaded via config.sys for example as follows: device=c:\wavelan\wavecad\wvlancad.sys /i=10 /b=300 /m=e000 where: i: interrupt, valid values 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 b: I/O base address, valid values n*0x40 in the range 0x0100 - 0xFFC0 m: memory window, valid values n*0x100 in the range 0xC000 - 0xEF00 The i parameter value is specified as a decimal value, the other values are specified hexadecimal but without leading 0x or trailing h. 4. Installing the packet driver ======================================================= Copy WVLAN42.COM and PACKET.INI to your system. Adjust the configuration parameters if needed. PACKET.INI contains information on the configuration parameters including their valid ranges and default values. 5. Running the packet driver ======================================================= To start the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 L The Packet Driver can be loaded from AUTOEXEC.BAT. The Packet Driver will look for the configuration file PACKET.INI in the current working directory. To unload the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 U To get help information for the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 H When the Packet Driver encounters an unknown keyword in configuration in PACKET.INI it will produce an error message, but load anyway. When a configuration parameter is given an invalid value in PACKET.INI an error message will be given as well, but in this case the Packet Driver will not load. If you want to run PDETHER on top of the Packet Driver you should use version 1.03 or newer. 6.
