Change History ******************************************************************* I. Installation Notes for MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT Please refer to the IEEE 802.11 WaveLAN User's Guide for the description of the software installation. This section contains additional information and corrections only. I.1. Removing the WaveLAN/IEEE driver from a MS-Windows 95 computer ======================================================= 1. Go to the "Network Neighborhood" icon on your display and click on the right mouse button, then select "Properties". 2. At the "Network" screen click at "WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card", then "Remove" button and "OK". 3. DO NOT confirm restarting computer. 4. Go to Windows Explorer to the "Win_Dir\System" directory, where "Win_Dir is the directory where your Windows 95 OS is located, by default it has name "Windows". 5. Remove Wvlan41.sys and Wvlanuif.vxd. 6. Goto the Win_Dir\Inf directory. 7. Remove Wvlan41.inf. 8. Restart your computer. Your driver is now removed. I.2. Installation under MS-Windows NT 4.0 ======================================================= a) Enabling the PC Card Controller for the WaveLAN ISA Card. When you install Windows NT on a computer after you installed the WaveLAN ISA Card hardware, Windows NT will automatically start the PC Card Controller. When you install the WaveLAN ISA Card in a computer that has Windows NT already installed, you probably have to start the PC Card Controller manually: 1. Go to "Control Panel", and select "Devices". 2. In the list of devices, select "PCMCIA". 3. If "PCMCIA" is "Disabled", Select "Startup", and Select "System". 4. Restart your computer. 5. The PC Card Controller is now enabled. 6. Follow the WaveLAN Miniport Driver installation as described in the User's Guide. b) I/O Port The WaveLAN Card's default I/O Port value under Windows NT is 0300. I.3. PC Card Memory Address under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT ======================================================= The WaveLAN Card does not need a PC Card Memory Address. I.4. I/O Port conflicts under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT ======================================================= When your WaveLAN Card's installation completed successfully, but it does not become operational (WaveMANAGER/CLIENT reports "WaveLAN card not operational"), you are advised to try a different I/O Port value. The Windows Resource Manager does not always detect a conflict. This problem has been noticed under Windows 95 OSR 0, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. I.5. Updating the WaveLAN/IEEE driver under MS-Windows 98 ======================================================= 1. Go to the "My Computer" icon on your display and click on the right mouse button, then select "Properties". 2. At the "Device Manager" screen click at "Network Adapters" and select the "WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card". 3. At the "Driver" screen, click the "Update Driver" button. 4. Follow the Installation Wizard guidelines. ******************************************************************* II. Installation Notes for MS-DOS Please refer to the IEEE 802.11 WaveLAN User's Guide (Annex B) for the description of the software installation. This section contains additional information and corrections only. II.1. DOS Card Access Driver ======================================================= The User's Guide refers to the incorrect name "wavecad.sys" for the Card Access Driver. The correct name to use is "wvlancad.sys". The driver contained on this diskette uses the correct name. II.2. DOS Packet Driver ======================================================= To select the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation, add the following line to PACKET.INI: PortType 3 To unload the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 U To get help information for the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 H When the Packet Driver encounters an unknown keyword in configuration in PACKET.INI it will produce an error message, but load anyway. When a configuration parameter is given an invalid value in PACKET.INI an error message will be given as well, but in this case the Packet Driver will not load. If you want to run PDETHER on top of the Packet Driver you should use version 1.03 or newer. I.3. DOS ODI Driver ======================================================= To select the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation, add the following line to NET.CFG: PortType 3 ******************************************************************* III. Software versions ======================================================= The following software is provided on these diskettes. MS-DOS Diskette: General information: \README.TXT \REPORT.TXT \CPY2HDSK.BAT \WAVELAN.1_2 Card Access Driver for DOS: \WAVECAD\WVLANCAD.SYS version 1.00 16-bit ODI Driver for DOS: \DRIVERS\DOSODI\WVLAN43.COM version 1.00 \DRIVERS\DOSODI\WVLAN43.INS \DRIVERS\DOSODI\DRIVER.LST \DRIVERS\DOSODI\WVLAN43.CFG Packet Driver for DOS: version 1.20 \DRIVERS\PACKET\WVLAN42.COM \DRIVERS\PACKET\PACKET.INI Windows Diskette: General information: \README.TXT \REPORT.TXT Windows 95, 98 and NT NDIS Miniport driver: \WVLAN41.SYS version 1.30 \WVLAN41.INF \WVLANUIF.VXD \OEMSETUP.INF \WVLAN41.DLL \WVLAN41.HLP \CSH.DLL WaveMANAGER\CLIENT software \WAVEMGR\_INST32I.EX_ version 1.26 \WAVEMGR\_ISDEL.EXE \WAVEMGR\_SETUP.DLL \WAVEMGR\_SYS1.CAB \WAVEMGR\_USER1.CAB \WAVEMGR\DATA.TAG \WAVEMGR\DATA1.CAB \WAVEMGR\LANG.DAT \WAVEMGR\LAYOUT.BIN \WAVEMGR\OS.DAT \WAVEMGR\README.TXT \WAVEMGR\SETUP.EXE \WAVEMGR\SETUP.INI \WAVEMGR\SETUP.INS \WAVEMGR\SETUP.LID ******************************************************************* III. Change History ======================================================= Following are the functional enhancements and major bug fixes: Release 1.02 November 1998 * WaveMANAGER/CLIENT / NDIS Miniport driver: - Problem is resolved that caused the Link Test to fail on some cards. Release 1.01 August 1998 * NDIS Miniport driver: - Functions now under MS Windows NT 4.0. - Boot problem in certain machines has been fixed. - Reliability of Firmware Download has been improved. * All drivers now support the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation. This is a non IEEE mode for an Independent Network (i.e. a MAC-layer peer-to-peer network without an Access Point), that is not interoperable with other vendors IEEE 802.11 products. When this mode is selected, communication takes place in the factory-installed default channel of the card. * WaveMANAGER/CLIENT: - User can now add text to log entries. - If the name of the AP is not available, its MAC address is given in the Status screen, rather than "unknown". - Protection is added to avoid that two utilities can connect to the driver simultaneously. ******************************************************************* END OF FILEDownload Driver Pack
