DELL OPENMANAGE(TM) IT ASSISTANT VERSION 6.5.3 README

######################################################################

NOTE: This readme provides information for Dell OpenManage
      IT Assistant version 6.5.3.

IT Assistant is the premier Dell OpenManage systems management
application for managing and monitoring Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP), Desktop Management Interface (DMI), and Common
Information Model (CIM)-instrumented systems. IT Assistant is
designed for system administrators to remotely manage networked
Dell systems equipped with SNMP, CIM, and DMI instrumentation.

This document contains the latest update information for Dell
OpenManage IT Assistant version 6.5.3. IT Assistant 6.5.3 is a
Service Pack Update for IT Assistant 6.5. IT Assistant 6.5.3 also
contains all of the changes and fixes added to previous IT Assistant
Service Packs.

For the latest version of this readme documentation, see the Dell
Support website at "support.dell.com".

NOTE: Some procedures described in this document require you to
specify file locations (paths) according to an example. All
example paths specified in this document refer to the default
file location. If you specify paths other than the defaults
during installation, use those paths instead of the examples
      specified in this document.

to manage Dell PowerEdge(TM) 7250 systems.

NOTE: The IT Assistant 6.5.2 or greater Service Pack is mandatory to
      manage Dell PowerEdge "x8xx" systems.

NOTE: IT Assistant 6.5.3 is a Service Pack and can only be applied to
systems that have IT Assistant 6.5 or an IT Assistant

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The following issues are corrected in IT Assistant 6.5.3:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

* An issue that resulted in (2) Array Manager traps incorrectly
represented as "Informational" rather than "Warning" was fixed.

* An issue where an IT Assistant User Interface only installation
was incorrectly blocking an OpenManage Network Node Manager
  installation was fixed.

NOTE: The fixes listed below were included in previous IT Assistant
      Service Packs.

* A memory leak was fixed in the IT Assistant User Interface.
This issue occurred when a large number of alerts were received
  by the management station.

* A Network Address Translation (NAT) issue that resulted in managed
systems not being discovered was corrected.

* An exception that resulted after the "IT Assistant Refresh" button
was selected after a console refresh (right mouse click – refresh)
  was fixed.

* An IT Assistant connection service crash that was caused by a
complex IT Assistant event filter (resulting in a large filter
  query string) was fixed.

* The default values in the event filter time range selection were
changed to select the whole day.

* IT Assistant can now launch the DRAC II console, which is generated
from a web server and is accessible via a web browser.

* IT Assistant now supports discovery of Class B networks.

* An issue where extra characters were displayed in the Alert/Event
  log was fixed.

* A Java.lang error seen during the "get inventory" process was fixed
  in this release.

######################################################################
USER NOTES
######################################################################

This section provides information to help you use IT Assistant:

NOTE: The total physical memory size of a managed system that is
discovered using the CIM protocol will reflect only the amount
of memory available to the Microsoft operating system. For
example, if you have six DIMMs in a spare bank configuration on
a Dell PowerEdge 2800, Windows only reports the size of four
DIMMs instead of the size of the entire six DIMMs.

NOTE: When creating a BIOS header file (*.hdr) for a remote BIOS
flash, if the system you want to flash is a PowerEdge "x8xx"
system, you must increase the extended memory available to
      the DOS program.

To increase the available memory perform the following steps:

      1. Close all DOS command prompts

      2. Right click on the _DEFAULT file in the WINNT or WINDOWS
         directory and select Properties

      3. From the Properties window, select the Memory tab

      4. Increase amount of Extended (XMS) memory to a minimum of
         3072 kilobytes

NOTE: When configuring networks for discovery, IT Assistant supports
the entry of an "*" or "0-255" range for the last two octets of
an IP address range. However, you should exclude the network and
broadcast addresses of the network address range as IT Assistant
will not automatically detect a broadcast or an invalid address
      when performing discovery.

For example, for Class C networks, the last valid IP octet range
is 1-254 (example: x.y.z.1-254); the end points 0 and 255 are
not valid IP addresses and should be excluded.

If using an "*" as your range for the last octet, the invalid
end point IP addresses can be excluded by entering IP exclusion
range(s) into IT Assistant; if entering the range explicitly,
you must make sure not to include the invalid end point IP
addresses as part of the range.

* For more information, see the readme for IT Assistant 6.5.
