######################################################################
INSTALLATION
######################################################################

On Microsoft(R) Windows(R) operating systems, run "setup.exe" from the
root directory of the CD or the software package.

On Red Hat(R) Enterprise Linux operating systems, start X Windows and
run "start.sh" from the root directory of the CD or the software
package.

On Novell(R) NetWare(R) operating systems, run "nwconfig" and set the
installation path to the "netware" directory of the CD or the software
package.

Detailed installation instructions, including silent install options,
can be found in the installation chapter of the "Server Administrator
User's Guide" on the "Product Documentation" CD.

######################################################################
USER NOTES
######################################################################

* See the "qig.txt" file in the root directory on the "Systems
Management" CD. The "Quick Installation Guide" provides
instructions on how to install the applications on the "Systems
Management" CD for all supported operating systems.

* If you are running IT Assistant or any other application on the
"Systems Management" CD, close the application before installing
  Server Administrator.

* Install log files on systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux
operating systems are stored by default in the "/var/log" directory
instead of the "/tmp" directory as documented in the "Server
  Administrator User's Guide".

* When installing Storage Management (Array Manager), if you deselect
"Install with Storage Management console" but do select "Replace
Logical Disk Management," you lose hard-drive management capability
on the local system and the hard drive can be managed only from a
  remote system.

* When installing Server Administrator remotely via telnet on a system
running Red Hat Linux, use the "su -" command instead of the "su"
command to ensure the pertinent environment and paths are set up.
Server Administrator services might not properly start otherwise.

* You cannot deselect specific services during the custom installation
and then install older versions of other service components such as
the Instrumentation Service, Storage Management Service, or the
  Diagnostic Service.

* Novell NetWare software for RAID controllers is available
in the "\support\Netware\RAID" directory on the "Systems
  Management" CD.

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux software for RAID controllers is available
in the "\support\Linux\RAID" directory on the "Systems Management"
  CD.

* On Mozilla browsers, the "Close" button on the Info and Help pages
does not work. Use the browser window exit option to exit the
  browser.

* The Dell system bus driver for NetWare is available in the
"\support\NetWare\dellsbd" directory on the "Systems Management"
  CD.

* When a system is detected with a version of Dell OpenManage
Install software earlier than 3.0, you are offered the option to
uninstall it from the CD interface. After the uninstallation is
complete, you must reboot the system before you can install
the current version of the software.

* Storage Management (Array Manager) cannot be independently
uninstalled under NetWare operating systems, if it is installed
using Dell OpenManage Install. It must be uninstalled through
the Dell OpenManage product entry under NetWare product database.
For Windows operating systems, Array Manager logs its own entry
in "Add/Remove Programs" when installed using the Dell OpenManage
Install and can be independently uninstalled.

* To run the RAID Hard Disk diagnostics, the current version of Storage
Management or Array Manager must be installed. If a previous version
of Storage Management or Array Manager is used, the RAID Hard Disk
  diagnostics may not operate properly.

* A Windows utility named "OMClean" is provided to help uninstall
Dell OpenManage software from a Windows operating system, due to
unexpected install/upgrade failures. After running this utility,
you should be able to install the current version of Dell OpenManage
Install software. This "OMClean" utility can be located in the
"support\windows\omclean" directory on the "Systems Management" CD.

* In a Windows upgrade situation where the Array Manager Console was
not previously installed, the upgrade will not automatically
install the Array Manager Console in an "Express Upgrade". To get
the Array Manager Console, you must choose "Custom Upgrade" and
select to install the Array Manager Console using the "Settings"
  button.

* The installation of IT Assistant takes a considerable amount of
time. It is especially noticeable on slow systems and in
situations where one installs using a network share.

* During the installation of managed system software for the Novell
Netware operating system, the "System Management Security Utility"
screen appears. When prompted to change the default password for
Server Administrator, select "N" (for "No"). This retains the
default user name as "root" and the default password as "calvin".
In addition, when prompted to allow SNMP set operations in the
Instrumentation Service, select "Y" (for "Yes") to enable
  SNMP set operations.

* Before installing Server Administrator on Windows 2000-based
systems, verify that the "Unsigned non-driver installation behavior"
policy is set to "Silently succeed." Otherwise the Dell OpenManage
installer cannot properly install Server Administrator.

This policy can be found in Start menu > Programs >
Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy. Expand "Security
Settings > Local Policies > Security Options". After changing the
  policy, execute "secedit /refreshpolicy MACHINE_POLICY" from a
command shell to immediately invoke the security policy change.
After Server Administrator has completed the installation,
this policy can be set to its original value.

######################################################################
KNOWN LIMITATIONS
######################################################################

This section provides information about open issues with this
release of Dell OpenManage Install.

======================================================================
Installation and Uninstallation Issues for All Supported
Operating Systems
======================================================================

* If you already have Adaptec Fast Console installed on your
system, you must uninstall this application before installing
  the Storage Management Service.

======================================================================
Installation and Uninstallation Issues for Supported Windows
Operating Systems
======================================================================

* Your video driver must be capable and configured to support 256 or
more colors, and the video resolution must be set to a minimum of
800 x 600 for the install program to run.

* Before installing Citrix Metaframe (all versions), you must
uninstall any previous versions of Server Administrator. Errors may
exist in the registry after a Citrix Metaframe installation. Server
Administrator must be installed after the installation of Citrix
  Metaframe is complete.

* If you have installed or upgraded to Microsoft Windows Server 2003
using the CD from Microsoft, the RAID controller driver for PERC
2/QC, PERC 2/Si, PERC 3/Si, and PERC 3/Di controllers is
incompatible. You should update to the latest driver (available
on the "Dell OpenManage Server Assistant" CD) before installing
Dell OpenManage Install software with the "Systems Management" CD.
Failure to do so prevents the RAID controller from being managed
through Server Administrator and Array Manager.

* On systems running a Windows operating system, when you uninstall
all the management station components using the "Add/Remove Program"
function, an empty folder named "Dell OpenManage Applications"
may be left in the "Start" menu under "Programs." It is safe to
  manually delete this folder.

* When performing an unattended uninstallation of managed system
components using the "setup.exe /u" command, Dell recommends that you
reboot your system after the uninstallation. If you do not reboot,
the Windows Disk Management tool may not function.

* The "Dell OpenManage Add/Remove Program" entry under a Windows
operating system does not support the uninstallation of the IT
Assistant component. This component must be uninstalled through
the corresponding Windows entry in "Add/Remove Programs".

* After installing Server Administrator without Array Manager, the
following error is generated in the Windows 2000 log:

"Unable to register COM class objects."

* If you have the Dell OpenManage Install software installed on your
Windows 2000-based system and you plan to upgrade the operating
system to Windows 2003, Dell recommends that you uninstall the
existing Dell OpenManage software before you upgrade the operating
system. To uninstall the existing software, use the "OMClean"
utility that is in the "support\windows\omclean" directory on the
"Systems Management" CD. After the operating system upgrade is
complete, you can install the latest version of the Dell OpenManage
  Install software.

* For unattended installation under Windows, it is recommended that
you use the default DOS Command Prompt - "cmd.exe" instead of
  "command.com". Using "command.com" results in an End-Program
DOS popup to which you must respond.

* Double-byte characters are not supported in the specification of
  the custom install directory.

* The space requirement check does not differentiate between an
upgrade installation and an initial installation. Up to 400 MB
of free disk space may be required to complete a successful
  managed system install or upgrade.

======================================================================
Installation and Uninstallation Issues for Supported Red Hat
Enterprise Linux Operating Systems
======================================================================

* Dell OpenManage Install and Server Administrator require the
"compat-libstdc++ RPM" package to be present in order to function.
If your Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system does not have this
package, the Dell OpenManage Install will block the installation.
You can find the "compat-libstdc++ RPM" package on one of the Red
  Hat Linux operating system CDs.

* The tg3 driver is not supported by Broadcom NIC vendor diagnostics.
Hence, OMSA will not run on a Linux system having tg3 driver.
Install bcm5700 if the "Server Assistant" CD (version 8.x or later)
was not used to install the operating system.

* If a Linux system is rebooted during an OpenManage Server
  Administrator installation (this includes upgrade/uninstall)
or if the installation has hung, subsequent installation attempts
may fail. Launching the "start.sh" or "uninstall.sh" script may
report the error that an occurrence of this script is already
running even though a reboot was recently performed.

This issue is caused by a "lock file" that the original installation
writes. If the original installation does not terminate properly,
the lock file is not removed. The following file must be deleted
using super-user (or root) privileges before another installation is
  attempted:

  /tmp/dellInstallLockA.0

======================================================================
Installation and Uninstallation Issues for Supported Novell NetWare
Operating Systems
======================================================================

* Installing Server Administrator on systems running supported
Novell NetWare operating systems requires that you run the
"restart server" command to complete the installation.

* For NetWare systems running Adaptec CI/O:

When the Adaptec CI/O Administrator is uninstalled from a system
running NetWare 5.x, the following message appears on the
  System Console:

"Unloading CI/O Management Service (IOMGR) is not recommended.
   Unload module anyway? n"

When the Instrumentation Service uninstallation program detects the
Adaptec CI/O Administrator on your system, the program switches to
the System Console to display this message. To unload the Adaptec
CI/O Administrator and allow the uninstallation program to
  continue, press <y>.

* For managed systems running NetWare 5.1 or 6.0:

Before running the Server Administrator installation in silent mode,
ensure that the NWconfig utility is not running. The Server
Administrator installation depends on the NWconfig utility; if
the NWconfig utility is already running when you start a silent
installation, the NWconfig utility fails and displays the
message: "This module is already loaded and cannot be loaded more
  than once."

* The NetWare server may abend while stopping the Array Manager
service, or while uninstalling or upgrading the Array Manager.
This problem may be experienced, when using or upgrading from
Array Manager Version 3.4 or earlier (present in Dell OpenManage
  Install Version 3.6 or earlier).

Problem: On NetWare, if you are running Array Manager Version 3.4
or earlier and you attempt to upgrade, uninstall, or stop the
Array Manager service, the NetWare server may abend.

Solution: Before attempting to uninstall or upgrade from the Array
Manager Version 3.4 or earlier (Dell OpenManage Install Version 3.6
or earlier), stop the Array Manager service by entering the
  following at the command prompt:

  VXSTOP -F

If the NetWare server abends while attempting to stop the service,
edit the "autoexec.ncf" file and comment out the line containing
ARRAYMGR.NCF. Commenting out this line prevents Array Manager from
loading on the next reboot. You can then restart the NetWare server
and proceed with the Array Manager (or Dell OpenManage) uninstall or
  upgrade.
