KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2500W Utilities and Documentation CD-ROM Readme V1.00 ============================================================ I. INTRODUCTION This readme file contains special information related to the following items: - Application Notes - Connectivity - Printer Driver - Status Display ============================================================ II. APPLICATION NOTES 1. Acrobat Reader 5--When documents are printed with "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size", while "Print as image" is not selected, they may not print correctly. In this case, you may use one of the following methods: - Select "Shrink oversized pages to paper size" and "Print as Image", when printing. - Upgrade to Adobe Reader 6 or later. 2. MS Excel--When previewing (Print Preview) and printing worksheets and charts, patterns applied to drawing objects and AutoShapes may look and print differently than identical patterns applied to other objects, such as worksheet cells and chart series. 3. MS Excel--When a document is printed with N-up, the printable area may change. In this happens, adjust one of the following features: - Choose File/Page Setup, and adjust the Margins. - Choose File/Page Setup, and adjust the Scaling. 4. MS Word--When you open an existing Word document, Word passes its default media size on to the printer driver rather than using the media size specified for the document. Therefore, if you want to scale a document defined for one media size to print on another media size, use the following procedure: Go to File/Page Setup and open the Page Setup dialog, then close by clicking the OK button. 5. Notepad (Windows 2000/XP)--To print multiple copies of a file, use the Number of Copies setting on the File/Print/General tab, not the Copies setting on the File/Print/Setup tab. 6. MS Internet Explorer 6.0 (Window 98/Me)--A band may be imaged when printing web pages containing CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) Level 1 objects. 7. MS Visio 2000--When using certain fonts, the character spacing may be irregular and overlap. ============================================================ III. CONNECTIVITY 1. USB--If the PC is started before the printer is, the printer status may be offline. Unselect the "Use Printer Offline" printer setting to resolve this problem (Choose Start>Settings>Printers [and Faxes] and then right-click on the printer icon). ============================================================ IV. PRINTER DRIVER 1. Installation--Do not use Plug-and-Play or the Windows Add Printer Wizard. You must use the CD-ROM Installer in order to correctly install all necessary printer drivers and utilities. 2. Installation--The Printer Name must contain 31 or fewer characters. The default name is KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2500W. 3. Uninstallation--If you uninstall the printer driver, you must restart the PC to complete the uninstallation. Otherwise, some files are locked by the Windows operating system and, therefore, cannot be deleted. 4. Printing Properties--Don't change the following printer settings: - Details tab/Spool Setting (Windows 98/Me) - Advanced tab (Windows 2000/XP) 5. Original Size--Certain applications may allow you to select an unsupported media size in the Original Size list box on the printer driver's Paper tab. However, if you do select an unsupported media size, the file will not print. 6. Original Size--When you choose Letter Plus, UK Quarto, Foolscap, Kai 16 or Kai 32 and try to print, you must have the correct media size loaded in the input tray. If not, the printer will stop printing. 7. Original Size--When you use envelope and suchlike, on the Basic tab, please change "Paper Type", and then change "Original Size". In case of using another "Original Size" or "Paper Type" continuously, please press "Default" button once, and then change settings. 8. Collation--In case you print with "Manual Double-Sided" or "Booklet", please do not select the Application's Collation. 9. Manual Double-Sided--If a media jam occurs during printing of the back side of a print job, the job will be canceled. 10. Overlays--When editing an existing form overlay or creating a new form overlay (Edit Form Overlay button in the printer driver's Setup tab), if you specify the name of an existing form overlay, the new overlay settings overwrite the old settings without asking for confirmation. 11. Overlays--Overlay files are always created as color documents. Therefore, even if you select monochrome printing (B/W on the printer driver's Quality tab), the overlay prints in color. If you want a monochrome overlay, you must create it yourself and save it as an overlay file (Edit Form Overlay button on the printer driver's Setup tab). 12. Overlays--Overlay files must be printed at the same resolution at which they were created. In other words, if you create an overlay file with 600 dpi, any document with which you use this overlay should also be printed at 600 dpi. If you print the overlay with a different resolution, it is automatically resized and, therefore, placed incorrectly on the printed pages. 13. Overlays--Overlay files must be printed at the same Original Size at which they were created. If you try to use an overlay file created at a different size, the file will not print. 14. Overlays--Overlay files (*.prn) must be created with the magicolor 2500W driver. If you use an overlay file created with another printer driver, the overlay file will not print. 15. Overlays--Printing a file with an overlay uses twice the virtual memory of regular printing. Therefore, it is recommended that you increase your PC's virtual memory. 16. Watermarks--When a document has both portrait and landscape oriented pages and the watermark's angle setting is diagonal, the watermark will print correctly for those pages that have the same orientation as the first page. The watermark will not print correctly for the pages having another orientation than the first page. 17. Watermarks--The watermark printing will be changed, if the printer driver's watermark properties are changed during printing. 18. Watermarks--The Watermark may not print with certain font Size and Style combinations. 19. Edit Watermark--The Watermark Preview may look incorrect for certain Typeface, Size and Angle combinations. The actual printout, however, will be correct. 20. Network Sharing--The following functions may be unable to use when you use the printer in the client environment: - Create/Edit a custom paper - Overlay - Create a new watermark and edit (You can use the existing watermarks.) - N-Up However, when the server PC is Windows XP pro, the server's setting will be available exclusively to Administrator by clearing the check box for "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" of "Folder Options...". Or, when the client is Windows 98/Me, manual-duplex-printing may not be normal. In this case, please choose "Details" tab in the client's printer properties / "Spool Settings..." / "Start printing after last page is spooled". ============================================================ V. STATUS DISPLAY 1. Printer Name Change--When the printer's name is changed, you must restart your PC in order to work with the Status Display correctly. 2. Printer Status Refresh Rate--When a large print job is being printed, printer Status may not be refreshed until the print job has finished. 3. Rights--Only "Administrators" group users (Windows 2000) or "Computer Administrator" account users (Windows XP) can use the Status Display. 4. Sharing Limitation--If the magicolor 2400W is shared, you cannot use the Status Display. If you install the printer driver with plug-and-play and the installer on Windows Server 2003, the printer will be a shared one. It will not be available to use the Status Display in that case, so please cancel the sharing setting use it. ============================================================ TRADEMARKS KONICA MINOLTA is a trademark or a registered trademark of KONICA MINOLTA HOLDINGS, INC. magicolor is a trademark or a registered trademark of KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
