PENTAX OPTIO 230, 330, 430
USB DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS XP

Thank you for choosing a PENTAX Optio digital camera. The file "optioxp.exe" is a self-extracting archive file which contains the logo-certified drivers for your Windows XP computer, as well as information on how to install them. After you download/save the "optioxp.exe" file to your computer, and double click to unzip it, you will have a new folder on your c: drive called "pentax56" which contains the following files:

- The logo-certified USB driver files
- This "readme" text document
- A PDF document named "instructions.pdf"

The "instructions.pdf" document contains detailed step-by-step instructions for the installation of your drivers. It also has screen shots illustrating what you will see during the process. We recommend that you open and print the "instructions.pdf" document to use as a reference during the process. You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to open the "instructions.pdf" file. If you do not currently have Acrobat Reader, it is available on Adobe's website (www.adobe.com) as a free download.

To be as comprehensive as possible, we have also included text-only instructions in this readme document. Again, though, for illustrated instructions, please open the "instructions.pdf" document.

DRIVER INSTALLATION (first time connection)
These instructions assume that you are connecting your Optio camera to your computer for the first time. When you connect the camera to the computer for the first time and turn it on, Windows XP will automatically detect the presence of a new device and load the "Found New Hardware Wizard." If you have previously tried to connect your camera to your computer and were not successful, you may not see anything happen. That is, you will not see the "Found New Hardware Wizard" and you will not see a new "removable disk" appear in the My Computer window. If you connect your camera, and nothing happens, please see the instructions.pdf document for further information.

1. With the computer on, plug the USB cable into the camera and into an available USB port on your computer.
2. Turn the camera on. Windows XP will display the notification "Found New Hardware" and the Found New Hardware Wizard will open.
3. Found New Hardware Wizard. Make sure to select the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button. Click NEXT.
4. "Please choose your search and installation options."
- Select the "Search for the best driver in these locations" radio button.
- Place a checkmark by "Include this location in the search"
- In the location field, type "c:\pentax56" without the quotes.
- Click NEXT.
5. Windows XP will now install the drivers.
6. The wizard will notify you when the installation is complete. Click FINISH to close the wizard.
7. After the installation, you can find your camera in the My Computer window as a "removable disk."
