Thank you for purchasing Plusteks Colour Flatbed Scanner.

This ReadMe file contains important information which supplements 
the Plustek Scanner's Installation  Documentation.

Please simply click on the 'ReadMe First' icon on the Installation 
main screen to view or print this file. You can click on Word Wrap 
from the Edit menu of NotePad to view this document  properly 
on your maximized screen.

To view or print the related user's guides and/or documentation, 
click on the "Documents & Guides Index" icon from the installation 
main menu.  They are accessible from Acrobat Reader and/or Word 
Viewer.  

NOTE: If you do not already have "Adobe Acrobat Reader" on your 
system, simply click on the "Adobe Acrobat Reader Installation" 
icon from the main menu to install.

1. Windows 3.x/95/NT 4.0 Support
Our scanner drivers will support Windows 3.1x, Windows 95 and
NT workstation 4.0 only. Other operating systems may be added in 
the future - check our web page for updates.

2. Installation
Simply follow our "Quick Installation Guide", which is packed inside
the box with the scanner. This covers how to connect your new scanner
to the PC and how to install the software which makes your scanner 
work. From the installation main menu choose which "flag" represents 
your native language and click on the correspondent icon to install 
the programme.

Important Notice:
	MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE OCR AND IMAGE EDITING 
	APPLICATION SOFTWARE FROM THIS CD-ROM BEFORE YOU INSTALL 
	THE SCANNER DRIVER.

	If the application software has already been installed, 
	follow the on screen instructions to continue installing 
	the scanner driver.

 Note: 	After installing the driver, you will have to shut down 
	and restart your Windows before using your scanner.

3. Reading & Printing the Documents and Guides 

To view the document files with the PDF (Portable Document Format)
extension name (*.PDF), please ensure you have first installed the 
'Adobe Acrobat Reader' from this CD-ROM. From Windows Explorer, if 
you double-click on a file with the extension PDF, the document 
will be automatically launched via Acrobat Reader and you can view 
the document instantly. 

For further information, see the 'Acrobat Reader' ReadMe file 

Some of the document files on this CD are in Microsoft Word format. 
These documents have the extension name DOC (*.DOC). If you do not 
have 'Microsoft Word 6.0' or greater on you system, you can install 
'Microsoft Word Viewer' which comes on this CD-ROM. 

You will find it located in the "WordView" directory on this CD. 
With 'Microsoft Word Viewer' you can easily view or print out the 
DOC files.

4.  Application Software Documentation

a.  TextBridge OCR  Documentation

To get further information about TextBridge OCR software, please 
refer to the Quick Card (Quikcard.PDF), ReadMe file (ReadMe.txt) 
and PDF formatted manual (located in the TBCLADOC folder).

b.  PicturePublisher Documentation

The Micrografx PicturePublisher offers you a very powerful on-line 
help facility within the program. You can get the details by 
clicking on 'Help' when you are using PicturePublisher.

To get further information about PicturePublisher please refer to 
the ReadMe file on this CD which is located at 
D:\GUIDE\PPDOC\PP5\README.TXT or D:\GUIDE\PPDOC\PP7\README.TXT 
(D indicated the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM which may 
vary according to your system configuration).

5.  Documents & Guides Index

Here are the contents of the folders which are accessed when you 
click on the Documents & Guides Index icon on the main screen.

i) Q & A Folder
The Q&A folder contains the Q&A document where you will find answers 
to frequently asked questions.

A Brief Trouble-shooting Guide named SHOOTING.TXT is also located 
at Q&A folder. This contains helpful information if you have 
scanning or technical problem.


ii) SCANDOC Folder
The SCANDOC folder contains the Scanner User's Guide and the 
Registration Form.


iii) TBCLADOC Folder
This folder contains the manual and quick guide for the
TextBridge OCR software.

6. User's Guide & Registration Form
Scanner User's Guide [File Name: MANUAL.DOC or MANUAL.PDF]
Double click on MANUAL.DOC (Microsoft Word 6.0 format) or 
MANUAL.PDF (Acrobat Portable Document Format) to read the guide. 
The Scanner User's Guide provides instructions and illustrations on 
how to install and operate your scanner. We recommend that you read 
through the entire Hardware Installation guide before you begin to 
install the scanner.

Registration Form [File Name: Register.doc or Register.pdf]
You can register your scanner either by mail, fax, or on-line 
through our web site. To register, please refer to the Useful 
Information which is located at the end of this document.

7.Troubleshooting
The Trouble Shooting guide has moved to the Q&A folder. Please 
refer to the file SHOOTING.TXT. Just click the Documents & Guides 
Index icon on the main screen and then open the Q&A folder. To 
read the SHOOTING.TXT file just double-click on it.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
