INSTALLING VISIONEER 6100 USB IN AN XP MACHINE ...

NOTES:

Install Instructions for Both the Full download (58mb) 
and Update Only download are included here ...

I have installed this on several XP systems - including XP Home , XP Pro,
Upgrades and New installs - This combination has worked for every install ...
I have installed it on systems that already had 6100 drivers loaded (non-working) 
and a brand new 6100 USB install on a brand new XP install ...

FILE CHANGES (all included):

1) Downloaded the new 6100 usb driver (6100u2k.exe) 
2) Changed the Scanner.ini file to allow install in XP
3) Downloaded the 6200 pmxuds.dll for Windows 2000

In the full download version ...
The 6100u2k.exe has been renamed and copied to the driver subdirectory
The pmxuds.dll file has been copied to the i386 file ...

CHANGES ONLY DOWNLOAD INSTALL: - Overwrite all 3 files

1) Copy the Vision and i386 directories from your CD to your HD ...
2) Copy the 6100u2k.exe to Vision\Base\Drivers directory as 6100usb.exe
3) Copy the scanners.ini to the Vision\i386 Directory
4) Unplug the USB cable from the scanner...
5) Run the SETUP.EXE program in the Vision\Base Directory
   When it's almost finished, it will "stall",
     If you do a Ctrl+ESC - you will see it's waiting for you to plug in the
     USB and click FINISH for the driver - then it will finish installing.
6) When you run it the first time, it comes up with a disclaimer - you can 
   check the disclaimer so it doesn't keep popping up
Although it doesn't tell you to reboot - I always do ...

ALL FILES DOWNLOADED INSTALL:

1) You do not need to uninstall the previous software if you're upgrading ...
2) Unplug the USB cable from the scanner...
3) Run the Setup Program in the BASE directory
   When it's almost finished, it will "stall",

PROBLEMS:

1) If it asks you for the pmxusd.dll file - get if from the i386 directory ..

2) If the scanner won't respond when you click PREVIEW, you probably don't 
   have the correct pmxusd.dll installed - to correct the problem ...
   * SAFE boot to Windows and Log in as Administrator
   * Copy the pmxusd.dll file from the i386 directory to ...
     c:\windows\twain_32\paprport\6100USB

How To Update Drivers Manually
