Updating files/drivers for Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 ------------------------------------------------ This upgrade program can be used to update the latest PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 files/drivers on a. Windows 95 b. Windows 98 c. Windows NT 4.0 2. Procedure to install the PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 upgrade program ----------------------------------------------------------- For details of the installation procedure, please refer to the Readme.1st file. After running the upgrade program, you must reboot your system for the changes to take effect. 3. Enhancement ----------- 1. Improve TV-Out quality for PAL-TV in Europe. 2. Better support for MPEG-2 files playback. 4. Known Problems -------------- 1. In Windows NT system with CD-RW drive, if Adaptec UDF reader is installed, region error will be encountered when PC-DVD player is launched. Suggested workaround would be to uninstalled reader before launching PC-DVD player. 2. If power management option for harddisk turnoff is enbled, you may encountered Audio/Video synchronisation problem when the harddisk spin-up while playing DVD on some systems. 5. Features included from previous Web updates ------------------------------------------- October Web Updates =================== 1. Save Video Output setting (Monitor/ Standard TV/ Widescreen TV) after PC-DVD player is closed. When application is restarted, the last setting used will take effect. 2. Provide 5 times region setting option. You will be prompted to set the region during installation. Do not set the region if you desired to keep the current settings. When DVD title with wrong region code is inserted, you will be also be prompted to launch the Region Set program. 3. Bug Fixes The following bug fixes have been solved. 1. Fix problem where there is a pause during chapters change. 2. Universal Disk Format (UDF) reader is removed from the software installation to fix some titles reading compatibility problem. With this reader removed, Windows 95 4.00.950/4.00.950A (Retail version) users may encounter problems when accessing files in a DVD-ROM disc of a capacity greater than 2 GB. To access this files, you may copy the file DXR2UDF.VXD from the bundled CD's Windows folder to your computer's C:\WINDOWS\DRIVERS\IOSUBSYS folder. August Web Updates ================== 1. Windows NT 4.0 Drivers: Windows NT 4.0 drivers is updated to support Symmetric Multiple Processing (SMP) system. Limitation: If your current package does not contain the Windows NT 4.0 drivers, and if you have not yet installed your card, then you must perform the first installation on a Windows 9x platform. If you do not have a Windows 9x platform, you will not be able to perform the installation. 2. Hide mouse cursor in fullscreen video mode 3. Bug Fixes The following bug fixes have been solved. 1. Solve PC-DVD Player hangs problem with SBLive v1.0 drivers. 2. Solve PC-DVD Player hangs problem in Win95 Power Saving mode and Win98 Monitor Standby mode. June Web Updates ================ 1. Windows NT 4.0 Drivers: Windows NT 4.0 drivers support is added to extend the platform support for PC-DVD Encore Dxr3. Limitation: If your current package does not contain the Windows NT 4.0 drivers, and if you have not yet installed your card, then you must perform the first installation on a Windows 9x platform. If you do not have a Windows 9x platform, you will not be able to perform the installation. 2. SB Live! 4 point surround and AC-3 pass-through support The 4 point surround speakers support is added to utilize the 4 point surround speakers if you have Creative Sound Blaster Live! installed on your system. Instead of Dolby Digital 5.1 channel audio output downmixed to stereo surround audio output through two speakers, you get 4-channel audio output from your 4-point speakers setup. The AC-3 pass-through support is added to eliminate the need to switch between SB Live! digital out and PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 digital out to the digital input of your external receiver (e.g. Creative Desktop Theater 5.1). To enable these options: 1) Click Start -> Programs -> PC-DVD Encore -> PC-DVD Player. 2) On the PC-DVD Player, click the Configuration Menu button. The Configuration dialog box appears with the Audio tabbed page displayed. 3) On the Audio tabbed page, click the Advanced button. 4) On the Audio Output tabbed page, you can set your audio output by selecting either the 4 point surround option button or the AC-3 pass-through option button on the SBLive! group box. For the new setting to take effect, you need to relaunch the player. These options are available only for Windows 95 and Windows 98 and only if SB Live! is detected. 3. Force TV output to PAL-60 format This feature lets you have a additional PAL TV format option. 4. Bug Fixes The following bug fixes have been solved. 1. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
