Hitachi CD-ROM Drive Firmware Upgrade Procedure

1.  System Requirements
    Host:  PC/AT compatible
    OS:  DOS 3.X or higher
    Memory:  Minimum 100 Kbytes free memory

2.  Hardware Preparation
    1) Connect the CD-ROM drive.
    2) If a disc is in the drive, remove the disc before starting.

3.  Firmware Update
    1) Run the Flash Memory Update Utility as follows:

    C:\>FLASHUP <file name> <drive number>

    file name:  Firmware File
    drive number:  Specify the drive number as follows:
        0: Primary / Master
        1: Primary / Slave
        2: Secondary / Master
        3: Secondary / Slave

  2)The following shows sample screen message:

        C:\>FLASHUP 78r0010.DLD 3

            FLASH Memory Update Utility Rev.1.0
        (C) Copyright reserved by Hitachi, Ltd 1995

        The following Hitachi CD-ROM Drive has been detected:
           Product ID:        CDR-7830
           Firmware Revision: 0009

        The following download file has been detected:
           File Name:         78r0010.dld
           Product ID:        CDR-7830
           Firmware Revision: 0010

        The update utility will start updating FLASH Memory.
        Continuing will destroy the current contents of FLASH Memory.
        Would you like to continue the updating? [Y or N] y

        Updating FLASH Memory Now!

        FLASH Memory update has completed successfully.
        Please re-boot your computer.

4.  Firmware Update Failure
    -In case of failure when updating the FLASH Memory, The following warning
    message comes up on the screen:

    "Error on updating FLASH Memory."

    -In this case, replace the FLASH Memory.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
