how to.txt Driver File Contents (pcrw464-406.zip)

this is for all of you tring to run an external cdrw model #pcrw 464k47-406 on win 98 and xp. these will have to be manually drug and dropped into the appropriate folders to get to run. i found these files by trying to install this unit onto my dell laptop with winxp. the computer went to the sight (freecom) and auto downloaded the necessary drivers to install. i then was able to explore the device manager to get driver file names and path designations.

you will need to install nero 5.5 cd creator this version is good for all windows operating systems. uninstall all of your adaptec cd creator software before installing nero5.5.

the file drivers and text doc. how to included are:

how-to read me
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
mxiw2k.sys
redbook.sys
and storeprop.dll

before getting started, in win98 you need to go to your windows/system32 folder and create a folder called old redbook for backup purposes or the old file will be writin over and lost!
locate and place the old redbook into the old redbook folder.

in 98:
place the storprop.dll into your windows folder(drag and drop).

place all of the existing system files and drop them into your system 32 folder.

this worked for me on an ibm 600e laptop. i burned one cd just fine.

in xp:
the device wizard should recognize the device and try to look for a download on the freecom site.

you will still need your usb software drivers (freecom) installed as this laptop is. you might want to do this first if you don't already have it installed. after uninstalling the cd software try rebooting computer so registry can update. hope this works for you.
