Changing the COM port settings
------------------------------

More recent versions of Windows recognize more
than four COM (Communications) Ports. Since
earlier software packages only recognize four,
you may need to change the COM port in order to
use older communications software.

1. To change the COM port, click on the START
button. Select SETTINGS and choose CONTROL PANEL.

2. Double-click on the SYSTEM icon and select
the DEVICE MANAGER. Select the MODEM tab and
highlight the modem to reconfigure. Press
PROPERTIES. All the modem properties will be
displayed.

3. Select the RESOURCES tab. The input/output
range and setting display for the modem. Highlight
the input/output range.

4. To change the settings, deselect the USE
AUTOMATIC SETTINGS indicator box, then press
CHANGE SETTINGS.... The EDIT INPUT/OUTPUT RANGE
window is displayed.

5. Select one of the following values that
correspond to the first four COM ports:

Base I/O	COM Port
03F8 COM 1
02F8 COM 2
O3E8 COM 3
O2E8 COM 4

Note: In the lower portion of the window, a
message will display if there is a conflicting
device already using the selected COM port.

6. Press OK to accept the value, then Press
OK to close the window. A warning window displays
to verify you want to create a forced configuration.
Press YES.

Remember to reset your software after making the change!
