Changing the COM port settings ------------------------------ More recent versions of Windows recognize more than four COM (Communications) Ports. Since earlier software packages only recognize four, you may need to change the COM port in order to use older communications software. 1. To change the COM port, click on the START button. Select SETTINGS and choose CONTROL PANEL. 2. Double-click on the SYSTEM icon and select the DEVICE MANAGER. Select the MODEM tab and highlight the modem to reconfigure. Press PROPERTIES. All the modem properties will be displayed. 3. Select the RESOURCES tab. The input/output range and setting display for the modem. Highlight the input/output range. 4. To change the settings, deselect the USE AUTOMATIC SETTINGS indicator box, then press CHANGE SETTINGS.... The EDIT INPUT/OUTPUT RANGE window is displayed. 5. Select one of the following values that correspond to the first four COM ports: Base I/O COM Port 03F8 COM 1 02F8 COM 2 O3E8 COM 3 O2E8 COM 4 Note: In the lower portion of the window, a message will display if there is a conflicting device already using the selected COM port. 6. Press OK to accept the value, then Press OK to close the window. A warning window displays to verify you want to create a forced configuration. Press YES. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
