            D-Link DGE-550T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Installation
                                   for
     		Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME

 Getting Started
 ---------------

    The Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE or Windows ME 
    installation CD are need to complete this install.

    Windows 95 OSR2
    ---------------

     1. Make sure your computer is power-off.

     2. Plug the adapter into one PCI slot of your computer.

     3. Turn on the power. Your computer should be booting.

     4. Windows 95 will find new hardware, and
        "Update Device Driver Wizard" will appear.

     5. Insert the driver diskette into the floppy disk drive, and
        press "Next" to continue.

     6. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" should found the driver now,
        press "Finish" to continue. If wizard did not found the driver,
        press "Other Location" and specify the location of the driver.

     7. After finishing file copying, the Windows system will ask you
        to restart the system. Select "YES" to reboot.

    Windows 98
    ----------
     1. Make sure your computer is power-off.

     2. Plug the adapter into one PCI slot of your computer.

     3. Turn on the power. Your computer should be booting.

     4. Windows 98 will find new hardware, and
        "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear.

     5. Insert the driver diskette/CD into the floppy/CDROM drive, then
        press "Next", and "Next" again in the following window.

     6.	Please check "Specify a location" and specify the path. 
        (A:\, assume A: is floppy drive),
        (D:\, assume D: is CD drive).

     7. The wizard should found the driver now. Follow the direction
        to complete installation.

     8. After finishing the installation, the Windows system will ask
        you to restart the system. Select "YES" to reboot.


    Windows 98 SE
    -------------    
     1. Make sure your computer is power-off.

     2. Plug the adapter into one PCI slot of your computer.

     3. Turn on the power. Your computer should be booting.

     4. Windows 98 will find new hardware, and
        "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear.

     5. Insert the driver diskette into the floppy disk, and
        press "Next", and "Next" again in the following window.

     6.	Please check "Specify a location" and specify the path. 
        (A:\, assume A: is floppy drive),
        (D:\, assume D: is CD drive).

     7. The wizard should found the driver now. Follow the direction
        to complete installation.

     8. After finishing the installation, the Windows system will ask
        you to restart the system. Select "YES" to reboot.

    Windows ME
    ----------    
     1. Make sure your computer is power-off.

     2. Plug the adapter into one PCI slot of your computer.

     3. Turn on the power. Your computer should be booting.

     4. Windows ME will find new hardware, and
        "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear. Check
        "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)" and
        press "Next".

     5. Insert the driver diskette into the floppy disk, check
        "Specify a location" and specify the path. 
        (A:\, assume A: is floppy drive),
        (D:\, assume D: is CD drive).

     6. The wizard should found the driver now. Follow the direction
        to complete installation.

     8. After finishing the installation, the Windows system will ask
        you to restart the system. Select "YES" to reboot.


 Trouble Shooting
 ----------------

     - Everything is OK in Device Manager, but network adapter still
       does't function properly. Please make sure that your Computer
       name is different from others in the same network.  You can change
       your Computer name in

       "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network" -> "Identification"
       icons

     - Everything appears to be OK but network adapter still doesn't
       function properly. Please make sure that the adapter is properly
       connected to a network device (ex: HUB) and the "connection type"
       for this adapter is set to "AutoSense" or the correct media type.
       You can check it in

       "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network" -> "Properties"
       icons. Select "Advanced" item.


 Driver keywords
 ---------------
     - Open "My Computer" -> "Control Pannel" -> "Network" ->
       Double click "D-Link DGE-550T ...", Select "Advanced" item.

       Connection Type      Specify the connection type for the adapter.
                            Default: Auto-Negotiation

       Network Address      You can set the Ethernet address for your
                            adapter. It is not recommended to use this
                            keyword. As you know two or more adapter in
                            the same network with same Ethernet address
                            will cause a little problem.

                            When using this keyword you need to input
                            exactly 6 bytes of Ethernet address using
                            one of the following format:

                              xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
                            OR
                              xxxxxxxxxxxx

                            Default: read address from adapter ROM.

       802.1Q/1P VLAN       You can enable it for VLAN group.
       tagging              Default: Disabled

       VLAN ID              This value will active after 802.1Q/1P VLAN
                            tagging enable.

       GVRP                 Support GVRP and will active after 802.1Q/1P
                            VLAN tagging enable.
                            Default: Disabled
                            
      Jumbo Frame Support   You can enable this for Jumbo frame support.
   			    Default: Disabled
	   		    (The device or link partner should also support
	   		    Jumbo frame for this function to take effect.)

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
