configuration keywords for the system PROTOCOL.INI.

A. Installing the driver for IBM LAN Server 4.0 and OS/2 Requester
------------------------------------------------------------------

1  In IBM LAN server, select or run MPTS (Multi-Protocol Transport Services)
   program.

2  Press <Configure> button.

3  From the "Configure" dialog box, select <LAN Adapters and Protocols> option.

4  Press <Configure> button.

5  When "LAPS" dialog box is displayed, remove the current protocols and
   adapter from the Current Configuration list box.

6  Since the KF-221FX Fast Ethernet PCI adapter is not in the adapter list, press
   <Other adapters> button.

7  Insert the adapter driver diskette into floppy drive A:.

8  Specify the drive and path for the driver as below:

        A:\IBMLS\OS2

9  "KF-221FX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter" will be moved into the adapter
   list.

10 Highlight your adapter. Then press <Add> button to add it into the
   Current Configuration list.

11 Add the required protocols for the adapter added.

12 Press <OK> button.

13 Press <Close> button.

14 Press <Exit> button to complete MPTS program.

15 The installation of the NDIS 2.01 driver for IBM LAN Server is
   complete.


B. Installing the driver for IBM LAN Server 4.0 DOS LAN Service
---------------------------------------------------------------

1  Copy the NDIS 2.01 driver and installation files to the hard disk.

   Create the C:\NDIS2 directory on the hard disk for the PCI adapter
   and installation files. Insert the driver diskette into the floppy drive
   and enter the following commands at the DOS prompt:

         MD C:\NDIS2
         COPY A:\IBMLS\DOS\*.* C:\NDIS2

2  Install IBM LAN Server 4.0 DOS LAN Services program.

   a) Insert "IBM LAN Server DOS LAN Services Disk 1" diskette into the
      floppy disk drive and enter the following commands at the DOS prompt:

          A:
          INSTALL


   b) When the installation program asks where the OEMSETUP.INF file
      resides, answer with the path name where the driver files were
      copied in step 2.  In this example, it should be:

          C:\NDIS2

   c) Then, follow the instructions on the screen and refer to the IBM
      LAN Server 4.0 DOS Services Installation Guide, when needed, to
      complete the installation procedure.

   d) Let the installation program automatically update the CONFIG.SYS
      and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to add the necessary commands to invoke the
      DOS LAN Services program every time the computer is booted.


3  Reboot the computer.

     Reboot the computer to have the changes in the CONFIG.SYS and
     AUTOEXEC.BAT take effect.


4  The IBM LAN Server 4.0 DOS LAN Services installation is complete.


C. Installing the driver for IBM LAN Server 3.0
-----------------------------------------------

1  Insert the adapter driver diskette into floppy drive A:.

2  In IBM LAN server, select or run the LAPS (LAN Adapter and Protocol Support)
   program.

3  From the IBM LAPS dialog box, choose the <INSTALL> button to install the
   PCI adapter for the IBM LAN Server environment.

4  Specify the drive and path, A:\IBMLS\OS2, to your adapter driver diskette.

5  After installing/copying the appropriate NIF files from the driver diskette,
   the IBM LAPS dialog box will appear again.

6  Select the <Configure>.

7  Choose the <Configure LAN transports> option and select <Continue>.

8  When Configure Workstation dialog box is displayed, remove the current
   configuration from the Current Configuration list box.

9  Choose "KF-221FX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter" from the list box. Then
   choose <Add> to add the adapter to the Current Configuration list box.

10 Highlight the appropriate protocols in the Protocol list box. Then
   choose <Add> to add them to the Current Configuration list box.

11 Choose <OK>.

12 The installation of the NDIS 2.01 driver for IBM LAN Server is complete.


D. Installing the driver for IBM LAN Server DOS Client
------------------------------------------------------

1  Use DXMAID to install the protocol and adapter driver
   for DOS Requester for the client.

2  Select WD driver as a temporary driver. Later, replace it with KF-221FX 
   Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter.

3  DXMAID program created a sub-directory \lsp.

4  Copy the NDIS driver dc21x4.dos from directory \IBMLS\DOS in the Driver
   Diskette.

5  Edit the CONFIG.SYS to remove WD driver and insert dc21x4.dos driver line
   as below:
                        ........
                  device=\lsp\protman.dos /I:\lsp
   NDIS driver -> device=\lsp\dc21x4.dos
                  device=\lsp\dxma0mod.sys 001
                  device=\lsp\dxmj0mod.sys
                  lastdrive=Z


6  Edit the PROTOCOL.INI to remove WD driver section and insert [DC21X4]
   driver section. All bindings that refer to WD driver should be updated
   to binding to [DC21X4] driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
