================================================================

The NDIS2 DOS driver can be used for the following environments:

       Artisoft's "LANtastic for DOS/Windows",
       IBM LAN Service program
       Microsoft Lan Manager 2.x
       Windows for Workgroups Version 3.1

DRIVER FILE:       \ndis.dos\dc21x4.dos
                   \ndis.os2\dc21x4.os2

DRIVER NAME:       dc21x4$

DRIVER KEYWORDS: the driver defines several keywords for specifying certain
                  adapter configuration parameters. The keywords can be
                  specified in the system PROTOCOL.INI file.

The keywords are defined as below:

Keyword    Description
---------- --------------------------------------------------------------
SLOT Specify the adapter instance in a PCI computer.

           Not present : auto scan the first adapter
           Valid values: 16 - 26 ( 16 is First adapter)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIA_MODE   = AUTOSENSE      ; auto detect 100Mbps or 10Mbps connection and
                            ; ignore DATA_RATE option
           = TP ; twsited pair interface running in standard mode
           = TP_FULL_DUPLEX ; twsietd pair interface running in full duplex
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DATA_RATE  = MB100          ; configure the adapter for 100Mbps operation
           = MB10           ; configure the adapter for 10Mbps operation
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Advanced Keywords :
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TX_THRESHOLD = FP ; "Full packet" threshold, store and forward
             = LW128        ; the smallest threshold
             = LW256        ; even smaller
             = LW512        ; smaller threshold
             = LW1024       ; a threshold of almost one packet

            Controls the transmit threshold of the device. A small
            threshold may improve performance, however in some machines
            it could cause many packets to be lost, and perhaps the
            connection may fail. Refer to \technote.txt for more information.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NUM_TX_BUFFERS = 4 - 16     ; Specifies the number of transmit buffers the
                            ; driver should use. Default is 8.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NUM_RX_BUFFERS = 4 - 16     ; Specifies the number of receive buffers the
                            ; driver should use. Default is 12.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TURBO = ENABLED ; Controls whether host-to-PCI posting (HPPE) will
           = DISABLED ; be disabled or enabled. This is relevant only if
                            ; the system's host-to-PCI bridge is INTEL's 82424
                            ; (CDC) or 82434 (PCMC) bridge.
                            ; ENABLED - disable HPPE, may improve performance
                            ; DISABLED - enable HPPE
                            ; <absent> - leave system setting as they sre.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: 1. Summary of the keyword combinations:

          SIA_MODE        DATA_RATE    --> Connector selected
          --------------------------------------------------
          AUTOSENSE       not specified     auto detect
          AUTOSENSE           MB100         auto detect
          AUTOSENSE           MB10          auto detect
          TP                  MB100            100 Mbps
          TP                  MB10              10 Mbps
          TP              not specified        100 Mbps
          TP_FULL_DUPLEX  not specified        100 Mbps
          not specified not specified auto detect

          If no active network connection is established,

       2. If SIA_MODE=AUTOSENSE is specified in protocol.ini and no
          active cable is connected during loading the driver, 10Mbps
          operation will be the default. Make sure an active connection
          is established before loading driver if "SIA_MODE=AUTOSENSE"
          is specified.
